Issues with the latest Nvidia Drivers.

Sunday night I updated the to NVidia 572.47 drivers.

It works fine with any of my other games (Including Final Fantasy VII - Rebirth). However, when trying to run ED, I get a black screen and cant even Tab Out to another program. Only way back is a hard reset.

Anyone else have this issue?

Yes on and off. Server hamsters are slow sometimes

Usually when switching to srv or disembarking. Things like that. Fdev made a post about is. It is noticeable in multiple ways.

Update - Issue Resolved.

Turns out it didn't like the fact I had my display settings set to full screen. I altered the graphic settings manually in the DisplaySettings file under C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local - frontier developments to (<FullScreen> set to 0) and reduced the resolution, saved it, restarted the game.

Once the game was up and running, reset everything back to how it was and it's working fine.

Never had this trouble with Nvidia drivers before but I'll certainly be more wary in future.

oh so it went to black screen b4 you could adj settings in the main menu gfx options thats an odd fix but if it works happy trails.............

The difference between 572.47 and the IMMEDIATELY previous release is that it fixes a problem with some nVidia cards failing to wake from deep sleep states. (eg if I leave my PC sleeping all afternoon, I got three black screens when I woke it in the evening, even though the PC itself is still up just fine and I could remote into it).

The difference between 572.47 and drivers from six months or more ago is... large, so if that's your issue, it's probably not specific to .47.

So going back one single version would likely not fix your problem, and would also introduce the sleep problem.

I updated the nvidia experience software recently and it decided to "optimise" my games for me - including setting them all to fullscreen instead of borderless, and kept reapplying its own settings even when I changed them in game. I had to change them to borderless in the nvidia software to make it stop.

It's also messed up the instant replay settings. The old software used to be a steady 1.75gb for a 5 minute recording, now the filesizes can be all over the place and the bitrate certainly isn't respecting whatever I set it to in the overlay settings. There was a post on the nvidia forums suggesting that other people are having the same issue.

Starting to wonder if I should just switch to using OBS or something for grabbing clips.

Messed around some more. Managed to set it to just force the recording resolution manually instead of autodetecting the ingame resolution, which seems to have a different max bitrate setting for some reason? Either way it isn't spitting out 4 gig files at 120Mb/s any more.

Two different bitrates for the same resolution means they are probably using different codecs with different levels of compression.

Make sure whichever one you've ended up on is supported as hardware compression otherwise streaming/recording will eat your CPU alive.

I had problems with 572.16 on W11 with my 4060. Rolled back to 566 and it's all gravy again. On Win10 with my 3090, it's fine.

I'm downloading 572.60 right now.
I've got many problems with my 4060. When y really whant no bugs I set the game to use only CPU on Screen configurantion menu.

my recommendations if you have any problems with updating your nvidia gpu driver or pc still wont sleep proper
use ddu https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/
utilize the clean install option on your updated driver package

if you don't wanna use ddu
uninstall current driver
disable gpu in device manager (ensure new driver package is downloaded ready to install)
reboot pc at which point it will load to a low resolution safe mode generic display
install new diver package using clean install method" that hopefully you put on your desktop from windows download folder
re enable gpu in device manager then reboot pc

There are various issues with all different types of games with the 572.x drivers. I've rolled back and sticking with 566.36 for the time being with my 4090.

I'm now up to 572.70 and still can't have it full screen. I can only use a borderless window which I have to set up via the Nvidia App. Painful but at least I'm still able to play
