It happened at last...

Finally caught some people in CQC.
Still not a big PvP fan, but it was a nice change of pace for a while. Been exploring for 7 weeks, so welcomed a change. Guess I did OK. Won a couple, lost a few, placed in the middle most of the time.

Only thing I can really say - it could use a good number more maps, as it gets pretty repetitive.

7 weeks is pretty good going, what was your previous longest time away from the bubble? My longest was about 14 months, spent about a month in Colonia then three months getting back home.

Funny thing with CQC is when I'm there I enjoy it and tell myself that I should give it a go more often... but then I don't.

Not really sure what makes games like CS:GO and Fortnite so compelling but CQC doesn't quite seem to have it.

Originally, I could blame my disinterest on the lobbies being empty and it being impossible to get into a CQC game but every time I've tried to play, recently, I've got into a game quite quickly.
Dunno if FDev have changed something or there are simply more people giving it a go.
Either way, it's busier now.

2 things FDev should do to make CQC more popular:-
- Provide access to it from within ED. make it into an in-game "sport" with "CQC sim pods" available from the "Contacts" tab in stations.
- Use it to provide a "test drive" capability for all ships, allowing the player to complete some kind of "race" or participate in combat against bots.

The 1st thing will give players something to pass the time while they're waiting for ships/modules to be transferred or for the mission-board to update.
Without this, players are likely to simply log-out for half an hour... and if they do that they might not come back afterwards.

The 2nd thing would allow people to try out new ships, which is likely to make them buy them and that, in turn, means FDev are likely to sell more cosmetics.

13 days.

I've been trying for years to find an active match, so imagine my surprise when it actually matched up today. I don't disagree in the slightest, it should be an in-game mode, like Multi-crew. I can't see any good reason for it not to be. Leaderboard signs at stations would be fantastic, and even better - the ability to place wagers on competitors would be awesome.

A "ship simulator" would be nice too - to test out build ideas or experience ships before purchasing them would save a lot of people a lot of time and money.

If it's deserted like that, then what stops people from win-trading?

Matches simply do not start if there are not enough players. And from what I can tell, the comms do not work in CQC. This may be a bug, I'm not sure. You can open the comms menu, but cannot type a message.

I think the point is, when you do find a match, you might just send a message that says "Hey folks, I'll let you win for half an hour and then you let me win for half an hour so we can both rank-up"

Problem is, that's kind of just not fun.
The only real purpose of CQC is to whizz around shooting stuff for a while.
Trying to manipulate it for more than that is more effort than it's worth.

There is a system permit which requires CMDRs to gain a certain rank in CQC so maybe a bit of exploitative co-op could help with that but, meh.
Life's too short.

Do any of you have any evidence of win-trading, in a part of the game you don't engage with, or are you all just trying to start another fire?

You can't chat in deathmatch mode. The number of players required to start the match is 2 and there seems to be no hard skill/level based matchmaking (in deathmatch). Last time I played more regularly, I could find opponents almost daily in the late evening.
New maps would be nice, but there should be a way to select a specific one then.
Would it be in poor taste to have an Thargoid-battlefield themed one, with those green clouds and corrosive damage everywhere?

CQC could have been great. A sort of proving ground, where we could've tested our in-game builds or set up scenarios for PvP, instead of this sort of CS:GO in SLFs.

I do love a few games of CQC but as it's been said before it needs a few things to make it popular I think ;-

1. A lobby to allow commandrs to chat and arrange games. (The CQC Discord does a good job of this).
2. Bots (which don't count towards your rank) to make up the numbers (As Players join the game, the bots are removed).
3. Battle Royal mode or Highlander mode.
4. Spectator mode (For E-Sports/trwitch Broadcast)
5. Being able drop into a CQC match from a Station (just to bring it into the main game more).

Unfortunately, CQC suffers from the 'If People don't use it, then we won't enhance or fix it' problem, so we probably won't see any of these implemented.

I bet only 2.8% bought E:D for some quick DM. All the others for exactly not that reason.

Edit: Seriously, CQC is a bit like some single player games, that have some tacked on MP.

I would argue it is purposefully disconnected, with deaths being basically meaningless, it could have motivated some cautious Cmdrs to raise their combat skill and fly in open more often. Kind of like a second Cmdr slot exclusively for quick combat interactions. Too bad that it is not very popular.

For what it is, it’s fine. I’m not sure that “tacked on” is a suitable description. It certainly has “added on” going for it, but it does have enough uniqueness about it as well.

It’s not bad. It could certainly be a whole lot better, but I suspect there are higher priority items being worked on, so this is likely to simmer for a while longer.

I see two problems with it, it is completely disconnected from the main game and it is the complete opposite of the main game. Like, you wouldn't buy Arma 3 for playing a mod/ addon that made it more like Call of Duty.

But you could ease friends into playing Arma by showing them CoD first and than moan about its limitations.
Oh, there was a comparatively cheap (and free at some point) standalone CQC game. You learned the controls of CQC? How about upgrading to the real Elite game?
