It Is Much More Fun Now I've Been 'Pirated'

Yay piracy! This thread cheers me up too. If we all approach things like piracy with the right attitude (that this is a game, that we should enjoy) it can be great fun from both sides.

+1 to op. Can't rep Zephyr again atm, so metaphorical +1 to him too.

Totally agree, if I have no chance then it is pants. I think I could get to the station though, thats why I went straight back and did the journey again.

The game is so different when there is risk. So much better. I saw someone post earlier today that it is too easy to make money doing these milk runs, that you can always outrun the NPCs if you know what you are doing. Well bring on the PC pirates, that's what I say, as long as the skilful Commander has a good chance of delivering his (or her) cargo. It is these kinds of balancing acts that FD need to be on top of, so to speak.

+1 rep to you, Beyond Harmless. I really appreciate your positive attitude towards PvP / PC pirating. This game definitely needs more mature players like you.

Sadly, most carebears still think that PvP simply means griefing and no fun. And, of course, the 'solo online' mode becomes their safe haven.

I have killed quite a few haulers and Type 6's today who all seem to be blind and unwilling to respond or drop their cargo. Every single target has attempted to flee instead of just dropping some booty.

The hardest thing is the amount of time you give someone to drop their cargo. If you give them longer than say ten seconds they can sometimes get a jump off and warp away while you're patiently waiting for them to roll over and drop cargo. That's why I usually message them and fire off a few warning cannon rounds into their belly to let them know I mean business.

I'm still sad that not a single person has even tried to pirate me or even attack me at all. Even in the combat zones people seem to ignore me as I fire rounds at them.

Do you know why the station defences didn't engage you in the no fire zone?
I had a player chase me into the no fire zone and I side slipped his fire which hit the station resulting in a flurry of lasers destroying them.

A lot of people seem to have problems with this, but the station guns never bother me as long as I'm not scanned and don't hit the station.

This is awesome news, this is the elite that I signed up for, and this is the attitude I was hoping to find among the player base.

For me... After some brief fun killing federal fighters in PvP-empty combat zone, I wen't back to trading to get some credits.

After a long time without ever needing to activate my hardpoints, I simply removed the weapons from my cobra in hopes of longer jumps.

I haven't even had a reason to take any pips out of engines...

I load my max load every time, no matter how expensive, no matter if ALL my money gets spent on cargo and would totally wipe me out..

My route is always the most quick and direct, even if long distances. There are no sketchy places to route around, there is no reason to keep my eyes open.

Many times I alt+tab out of ED, or view the galaxy map, while floating at a stop outside of the station - and I don't even give it a second thought.

BORING...

I wish a pirate would come after me... and then maybe get a bounty on their head, and then that pirate would come here to say how awesome it was to be chased by a bounty hunter, and so on...

I dont think many people are up to using the coms system, or even know how it works, so that could be a bit of an issue.

If someone were to contact me with a 'stand and deliver' request, firstly it might take me a few seconds to even notice (a nice clear 'beep' would be nice).

Second I would have to then target the pirate so that I could actually communicate with him (or her). This could take several seconds (for me) if local space is busy. Be nice to be able to do some kind of insta-reply.

And then I actually have to take my hands OFF the HOTAS to use a typewriter - and as I may be using both hands to, for example, shift to reverse whilst applying downward thrust whilst pulling hard back on the stick to pull the nose up to potentially introduce the pirate to both sets of rocket launchers, this may not be easy. (Though I wondering if it is physically possible to bring the nose around on a Viper thats right up your, err, back, at least quickly enough to employ the missiles before his canon tear me apart).

All in all I dont think many people are going to be replying to the 'gimme your goodies or else' but I think to a large extent its a comms issue that will be sorted in due course.

As to what I will do next time I am accosted by one of these bandits, I am not sure. Partly it will depend on the cargo I am carrying. This time it was fish so I didnt care, resonating seperators would have hurt a bit. Partly it will depend on whether I am asked nicely or not (politeness never hurts), but mainly it will depend on what mood I am in...

By the way..does speech to text work in ED?

I have voice attack but havent configured it yet. Can I get voice attack to deliver a pre-written typed response? That would be great. Then I could deliver a 'typed' line in comms like 'It is with great regret that after due consideration we feel unable to comply with your kind request at this time' by simply saying two words into the microphone, the second of these words being '....you!'

:)

I agree comm system probably needs some tweaking to make it easier to get pilots to notice important messages in general, including when they're being hailed by pirates.

Perhaps players should be able to send an audible beep or message or something to get the other player's attention.

On that note, if Commander R***** (I don't remember your full name, just that it started with an R) who was attempting to hold me up outside of Freeport yesterday is reading this, I was making changes to Fire Groups and did not see your message on my way out until you already opened fire.

I like this thread.

No bashing us PvP fans who only want changes made that in reality need to be made in order to prevent the game from becoming static and unfair.

(Please no bashing - anti PvP people or those with a carebear attitude)

I think the arguments for the removal of the ability to change groups is strong and fair.

I also think that in the long run it will benefit the game.

Piracy is fun and even though I only bought the beta recently and registered on the forum today (Longtime lurker), I am already on my way to blowing up many shiny pixels.

The challange for trading adds to it. A strong skin is needed but its a good experience for all really.

@draiguk - totally agree with the sentiment about being called silly names/bashed very openly.

They should just sticky this thread and call it the PvP stories thread or something along those lines and have a mod put a clear warning in the OP for people not to bash PvP in the thread!

It'd be a safe haven for some of us!

I really don't buy the whole "The game seems better now that I've been pirated" bit.

Seems like another attempt to get Frontier to change the game. It's fine the way it is. In fact, it's perfect. It's designed for all different player types.

Actually no, it is me saying I like it like this, I am not sure how I could have been clearer...
