It seems like Odyssey might be changing planetary game play regarding material gathering

I've managed to find a few surrounding settlements while running missions to them, I generally collect any bios and raw matts if I see them there even though I'm not in any need of raw mats at the moment but who knows we may get a new ship one day. 🤷‍♂️
As someone else has said you can always visit HIP 36601 fill up and then trade.

Or log in Horizon, get a field of G4 and no pesky thargoids. No need to relog either. It wouldn't be too much of an issue if we didn't need a bajilion G4 for engineering, if you don't have the proper one. It's a 6->1 ratio for trader. If you need only 6 of them, that's still 36 of the other one.
Raw mats are OK, always have been. Manufactured and encoded, on the other hand ? Those are a PITA, you need TONS of the stuff.
Sure, but the post I was replying to explicitly wanted a non-Horizons method.

I would have to redo my whole control scheme for Horizons just for Selenium farming (Hotas) :(
Back your binds up and rename them using the XML editing method.

I've recently been playing Horizons despite preferring Odyssey (my wingmates stick to Horizons for their own reasons) and didn't have to rebind anything - I just selected my binds from the dropdown each time.

Here's the rub.

Somewhere in FDEV there is an EDH actuarist that has a spreadsheet listing the minimum time required to obtain each and every G5 mat in game, even with the most optimized gameplay loops players have devised.

They have evaluated average player tolerances (to the minute) for engaging in the grind before they get up and walk away from the game.

You can talk about crystal forests and geologic sites and the Jameson Cobra and Dav's Hope and HGSS relogs but you are basically avoiding the elephant in the room.

The crafting is the fun part, and FDEV doesn't give a rat's donkey about fun, it's completely about minutes burned.

It's too bad that the bean counters haven't encouraged development of crafting mechanics rather than material gathering mechanics.

People would be all about testing and trying builds, buying ships (and skins), instead of unplaying the game to minimize the grind.

Oh well, 7 year old game on maintenance mode.

There is Valkirye, crashed conda in Trianguli Sector GW-W b1-0, with 3 cargo racks around, Ruthenium, Tellurium, Antimony in any combination.
Relogging and visiting Material trader. It's the same solution like Jameson Crash Site.

how to farm Selenium in Odyssey without driving around in the SRV for 4 hours and gathering 3 pieces? I' talking about solid farming.
I don't specifically farm Selenium, don't use it that much, but it can also be found in some Icy and Metallic rings.

It is a pity that we cannot trade raw, manufactured and encoded mats within either Odyssey or Horizons like the Odyssey specific mats.
