It was great to 'bump' into you CMDR Inhumierer!!

Literally!

Backs story: Flying out of a station with another player coming in, see them and move to the side, only to suddenly see ANOTHER player coming on the free side I am aiming for! Technically the first player was on the 'wrong' side of the slot (their red side - I realize that this isn't a hard and fast rule, heck I don't follow it that often). So I hit another Cobra in my Cobra Cargo Runner (mine was stripped to the bones, no shields, no weapons, just cargo space and lots of it - uprated power transfer and thrusters, though mainly to keep weight down for jump distances!).

Any-hoo I bump into the second Cobra and watch my hull integrity dropping as I see his (sorry assuming 'he') shields brightly glowing blue. Manage to untangle and get out with hull down to 75%, could have been worse! I quickly pull up the chat window and find the other ship to apologize and we had a great little chat about it. He (again assuming as I don't know ;)) apologized for causing hull damage, not that I was worried, had insurance money so worst was the loss of cargo!

Anyway just wanted to give CMDR Inhumierer a shout out as it was so nice to have a conversation in game and in character!

The chat system sucks though LOL ;)

There is only one rule when docking: the larger ship always has the right of way.
When I (un)dock my Anaconda, I don't really care for other ships, except other Anacondas and maybe Type 9s. Several Cobras and Asps coming in at too high speed while I undocked, payed with their destruction and hopefully learned their lesson.

So, always check your scanner for other ships, especially other Commanders, before you dock and keep your speed low enough to stop or step aside if necessary and wait for the other ship to pass through the slot instead of squeezing yourself through somehow :)

Nah. The way to dock and undock is to line up, scream Banzai! as you head full speed either in or out, and thank The Emperor that nothing is coming the other way.

Every time I blast out of a space station I remember the Elite meme with Walter White saying effectively, "I'm the one who boosts".

Now I say it every time!

That's how I do it, that's how Dad did it, that's how The Federation does it... and it's worked out pretty well so far.

That's what I always did in the original game, worked every time... Granted it's a little more complicated these days but 60% of the time it works every time.

There is no wrong or right side. The lights are for orientation so that when you get inside the station so you can find your landing pad.

Hehe, yes, I remember that very good! I probably have this recorded with OBS ;)
Nice chat, anyway. In fact it was my third ingame chat. Firt was "Hello" - "Hi" and then my DSL router decided I have played enough and dropped my internet connection. Next was "Hello" - "Hi" again, but no disconnect. So this was my first real ingame chat, and I enjoyed it.
And yes, there is no stone written rule where to enter/leave a station, but most CMDRs fly on the green side. I'm glad we both had Cobras, and low speed. So my shields absorbed the whole crash, and the "opponent" had some hull damage - no shields to increase cargo space. Happened at Yembo, Naddoddur (sp?). It was very crowded there in the last days.
I'm heading for the probably gold rush now. Send me a friend request, join me for some mining, I'll drop you some gold for your repair bill.
