So recently I finally got around to messing around with the Federal ships (been an Admiral for eons now) and while the Gunship was a hoot I have been doing a lot of RES hunting in a Federal Assault Ship since turning Deadly. It's been a pretty good ship so far and I can see why it's a favorite with the PvP crowd. It's too bad that the Gunship isn't more nimble cuz 7 Guns for Sister Sara really put a hurting on things it got a hold of.
But along with the FAS I gave a real whirl at engineering the weapons vs just getting like Efficient Pulse lasers for my multi-role ships or even my Vulture. I went with G5 Overcharged Gimballed Pulse lasers with the Phasing Sequence mod on the large hardpoints (what a cool effect those have on impact!) and the two med hardpoints have G5 Overcharged Gimballed Multi-Cannons, one with Corrosive ammo and the other with Emissive Munitions (yet more really cool impact effects!). The emissive rolled that way for free so I figured why not just keep it ya know?
The RES's around the Secret Billionaires place proved to be really good during the recent CG there and are still groovy so I kinda stayed around. In the past week I've climbed up to 13% Deadly and I think the FAS is going to take me all the way to triple Elite.
But I guess the whole point of this post is to maybe tout the survivability of the FAS and to show off a pic of the worst I have been beat up in a RES and lived to tell the tale.
I had decided to take on an Elite Anaconda while already down to 84% hull and only about 50% shield on the 5C Reinforced Bi-Weaves. I was hoping the shields would catch up with my potential lack in judgement before the Conda had other ideas. As I pressed the attack the NPC Cobra that had been engaged with my target decided he and all the cops in the area were gonna go for a coffee and donut break and left me with nothing but a scanner full of debris and one red/pink flashing blip. Good times!
It was a pitch battle! Trying hit and run tactics was working well but at one point I got too close, or was that cocky, and ended up ramming him and well whoops! There went what I had for shields with no chance to pop an SCB. A few more loops, guns blazing, boosting away, blazing in again. I was having an effect! But so was he. Hull dropping....sometimes rapidly.
Weapons malfunction! NO!
Again....malfunction. Crap! This is starting to get ugly. More malfunctions. Pulses lasers all but dead. MC's still working, barely.
Chaff malfunction! Pulses gone. MC's reloading. Hull down to 30% I've got one more chance. I came about and pressed the attack once again. Multi's blazing. But what the......?
Laser fire! Not from me. The Cobra came back and rejoined the fray giving just enough firepower to help. Boost! Loop around and run the MC's dry again....and then......
BOOM!! 248K for the destruction of Mr Elite Anaconda.
With 27% hull left and not much for weapons or defenses left I limped back to the station. Only after landing did I take stock of the situation.
I was actually mostly surprised that the repair bill was so low. That amount of damage on a larger ship would have been a much higher figure.
The FAS kept me alive to tell the tale and fight another day.
I might even Git Gud and try it out in a PvP match. NOT! I'm not that good a pilot.
