General / Off-Topic It will be increasingly difficult to not like the cat.

Allergic people will be able to adopt. :)

I was privilaged to be a temporary human surrogate to a lovely cat the other day, and was also reminded how allergic I am to them. Antihystamines help but not all the time.
I'd love this to be a reasonable cost thing.

If the vaccine is systematically proposed by the veterinarians to the millions of cat owners, then the cost should be quite moderate, perhaps like the other vaccines (Typhus, Leucosis, Rabies etc ...) ?

I'm probably going to get crucified, here, but I'm gonna say women should not have cats until they are done popping out children. Toxoplasmosis is kind of a big issue.

Other than that, I don't think anybody dislikes kittens.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Cats are awesome. Can't exactly have one now, though, since the kiddo is allergic.

If that weren't an issue, though..... :)

I read that the parasite is dangerous especially for pregnant women, HIV-positive people and people with weakened immune defense systems

Waiting for the children to be raised seems a little exaggerated.

Maybe. But if a young girl catches it, it can seriously hamper her ability to carry healthy kids, one day.

Now, I don't want to scaremonger, here. Some estimates say almost half of the human population has toxoplasmosis and in majority of cases it does nothing. But if you had a daughter, would you risk a low but non-zero chance that she's going to have problems one day when you could turn that chance basically to zero by simply not buying her a cat until she's at least 20?

You know, there are cats everywhere. In the street, at the friends 'house, at the neighbors'.

To be in contact with cats is highly frequent and inevitable.

Yes, that's why half of humanity has toxoplasmosis in various stages of dormancy.

But anyway, I'm sorry I'm tainting your thread about cute kittens with diseases. I'll stop now.
And here, have a kitten:

Cats have also therapeutic properties as several studies have proven.

Stroking or cuddling a cat helps relieving stress as well as fight against blood pressure. As well as fight against dementia.
