it would be a rip off but..... (they stole the heat thing ;) )

I just noticed one of the stretch goals for SC is an interactive holographic map which populates as you visit systems.....

Whilst this is quite cool, what I think is really good, and has kind of been my want in ALL games which have exploring, the ability to make notes and postit note sticker to each area you visit.

Has anyone in the DDF discussed the option of digital notes and also pins that you can put on your map?

cheers

im pretty sure you can, thats the whole idea of explorers being able to sell discovered locations.

@ Mobius if it happens that is great.

ideally so I could put a yellow pin on a system for "nice star for scooping",

and another coloured one in another system for "asteroid belt, mining potential and bolt hole to hide in in case I am getting chased by pirates.

and of course another one for...

This place looks blooming fantastic!!!

@Lobster.... that sounds along the right lines, but, it doesnt sound like it is directly tied into the map, but maybe i am not reading correctly.
=========

It would also be cool if for the life of the commander I could open up the map and it draw a line on the map plotting alone every system I ever visited.

This has no practical use that I can think of, but I cant imagine that data will take any space at all to store, and it would be great (I think) to see a line of all the places I have been.

(sort of an indiana jones travel map)

From the log proposal - "All entries will have metadata for location, time & date, NPC names, etc., so that they can be hooked into other in-game systems". Tie that into the galaxy map and it's fait accompli as they say in Belgium.

Thread title is a bit controversial ;) SC didn't steal ED's heat thing. In Wing Commander (the movie) the Luke Skywalker character says something about the baddies locking on to a heat signature.

Then there is a whole sequence where they have to go into stealth mode like a submarine and they all can't speak in case the baddies hear them.

in space.

Ether vibrations are very easy to pick up, as there is no interference.

:p

I've already painted my computer room's walls completely black. I'm ready to start painting the starmap as I visit each one, with lots of little notes and everything! ;)

Map that populates as you visit systems - like the X games then, personally I wasn't a fan of that idea because I prefer the idea of a hyperdrive over jump points/gates.

Plus the fact that why in that day & age would a map not come standard on any ship?

Indeed. And MechWarrior did the heat-sinks thing too.

People need to stop thinking that these games are completely re-inventing the wheel. They're definitely doing some original things, but not everything has to be completely novel, never been done before.

I hear Star Raiders had a rear view option.

Pants..... OK with the current climate maybe I should not have said anything that could have been taken as possible criticism however it was meant to be a tongue and cheek throw away comment made in jest and was in no way a slur on any other game.......

I don't think anyone's upset... Just pointing out the truth that most of these things have been done before anyway.
