It'd be nice to have a mystery that could only be solved 'in game'

I do like the unfolding mystery that's happening but wouldn't it be good to also have things that could only be solved in game? For instance random, different clues on station's news feeds which take an individual player off on their own treasure hunts somewhere. I know we've had the millionaire's treasure hunt before but more and varying adventures like these that could be found at remote outposts or stumbled upon by accident would be very immersive and rewarding. I've also been a part of the rift mystery but the only way players can communicate or group together is to use the forums.

It's a little disappointing that we have to use Google and forums to solve the problems, especially as they're often solved within a day without even using the mechanics that are in game. Is this just the way gaming is now though, when we can Alt-tab out and find the answers? It seems a little lazy, for both the game developers and players.

Perhaps I'm old-fashioned and liked being stuck in games like Space Quest where it would take months for me to work out the (sometimes ridiculous) clues and methods. (Or write off to a magazine if I was desperate!)

I agree with you. I'd love to participate in the whole UA, Hunt, ... storyline, but this requires a lot involvement in these forums, third party sites etc. I get that the challenges given by FD are far beyond any gaming standard and do require specialists knowledge and collaboration. Unfortunately, appropriate systems to manage this are not build into the game. There isn't even anything like global chat, etc. So the only way to do it is via external means like the forums.

that world has come and gone, we are in the World of instant gratification. I struggle to get through a point and click these days, but back in the 90's I would spend literally months stuck on a puzzle but never gave up. ALT TAB I'm sorry to say is just the new norm.

I think the current mystery can be solved if you have pen & paper (which is as old school as it gets), some basic math skills and in game tools. Generally I agree though. However, if the mysteries are easier than the current one it'll take less than 5 minutes until you find the solution on this forum...

Have you even seen this stuff? If this is "instant gratification" to you you must have finished games like Must in under a minute. :p

I have been thinking the same thing. I would like to have the tools ingame to solve mysteries and break codes. We have a navigation screen, systems, comms and so on. What if we could have a science screen that has these tools. Code converters, Scan information and wave form analysis.

I feel its very immersion breaking and disconnected to use outside sources to figure something out.

Please FD I ask you to consider this.

Well technically This forum which you have to login with non active game account is also part of the same universe as elite dangerous.. however this part of the game is free and doesnt require purchase!

It's been said lots of times, unless you use the forums regularly and have advanced binary/Morse code/spectrograph skills your out of luck when it comes to puzzles in this game.

It sold over 1.4 million copies and probably only a few thousand players even know about half the stuff thats going on in the game.

FD are the kings of poor communication.

Beneath a steel sky was another awesome game like space quest .

Miss those games so much, I have the special edition of monkey island 2 but I wish they would remaster the others too.

Maybe they could come up with meaningless codes that can only be unlocked by in game hardware aquisition maybe even that is layered, maybe cryptic rather than crypto.

Maybe codecs littered about space station adverts or outposts, a planetary based relic there are so many options that could be taken in game and only unlocked in game.

The SRV data scanner functionality seems way under utilised for instance.

Very much agree. I think it's cool what they've done and don't object to it, but don't overdo it.
Let's have more gameplay associated with it. Also, everything doesn't have to be about being the one (or one of a few) special person who first cracks it. The game shouldn't assume we're all reading out of game forums and the like. Much of what's going on wouldn't be common knowledge. If players could follow more trails and discover more lore in game that would be interesting and involving - even if the things you learn were already known (to some/to the internet).

There's also the fact that 90% of players are not scientists or programmers or audio experts so stop locking down the puzzles to the "experts" and let us all have a chance at solving something.

Plus I'm sure these guys solving the problems dont want to come home from work and keep working in the game they're playing?

That's just crazy!

I dont think anything "discovered" in hidden images in audio or secret messages in video in gamescon etc all that stuff that requires post-processing audio / video is the primary means of delivering hints/clues/puzzles to the players. It's just extra stuff.

What is delivered as a primary means of figuring out the mystery are action/reaction behaviors that you can figure out in-game and missions and galnet / local news items. Also, sometimes it still depends on FD manually progressing the story.

I dunno its quite cool. They probably should broaden it out more which they did sort of do with galnet. Quite hard to do ingame puzzle solving in online games tho and this is cooler than an mmo fetch quest "puzzle".

I said this a lot when the unidentified probes needed sound analysers and other programmes.

But as always I got shot down by the fan boys even though I am one myself.

And its even harder to get involved on xbox when you need programmes to run on a pc. Why should I buy a pc like fan boys told me to get involved in a game I paid just as much good money as everyone else has.

I doubt oc players would buy an xbox to get involved in this game there would be outrage.
