Its a game

I have been reading the ultra serious threads about this Game since the start. That's the whole point Its a Game, nothing more. Accuracy is irrelevant, from the fact that according to Albert, faster than light travel is impossible, to every other fantasy specific in the game, its a game so you can have anything happening anywhere, any time. just play it and enjoy it.

It's a game that provides an artificial reality and as such is a simulation of that reality. Consistency and logic within that reality is important as are blatant defects that are clearly not intended to exist in it. Your proposition is therefore false.

I disagree almost entirely, other than the bit about 'play and enjoy'. :)

Cheers,

Drew.

Some people enjoy realism - Farming simulator
Some people enjoy shooting - Call of Duty

etc, etc, ec

It's because so many different types of people play Elite that there are so many arguements. There is so much passion because Elite does a lot of things very right that people want them to fix the bits that are wrong.
Take a look at the audience that play Elite, it is arguably a mix of:
MMO
Arcade
RPG
Action/Adventure
Simulator
Nostalgia
Space Combat
And possibly some more genres I forget.

Very often two disagree such as MMO vs RPG and Simulator vs Arcade leading to passionate intense arguments. For many accuracy (to a reasonable degree) is the biggest enjoyment and most of the people here have a distinct vision of what they want Elite to become 5-10 years from now!

I've never seen any post where anyone complains about the sci fi aspects of the game. It's usually about lack of depth, bugs and other issues.

"It's a Just Game"

Wrong on so many ways! ;)

Perhaps he's just fed up of the people that treat it as though it is a new form of reality or must be founded in such cold hard facts that they denounce any decision taken with gameplay in mind.

It is a game. It is more a game than it is a reality. Accuracy though is important since that is a heavy focus for areas such as the stellar forge and many of the ship and SRV handling characteristics. However the game part of it means a significant proportion of it is is not accurate and should not be accurate otherwise it stop being a game. FD over the years have produced Elite games that were more 'realistic' in some ways that this one and they took a design decision to ratchet some of those areas back because (I assume but may be wrong) it favoured the game element.

I refer the right honourable gentlemen to the 'So why do we need to face a ship to tell who's in it?' thread as evidence of what may possibly frustrate people with a similar mindset to the OP. :D

It's a game. A good looking one with a pretty sound scientific foundation from what I can see and understand. It is still a game though and allowances for inaccuracies in order to make it a game are, in my opinion, perfectly acceptable (the biggest one that I would actually be allowed to fly one of these things by hand/eye when we all know it would be highly unlikely anyone with half a braincell would let us fly in anything other than emergency situations where the flight computer/autopilot fails)

Agreed.

Albert also discovered (by simply adding minus signs) that nothing can fly slower than light. It has been discovered since that wormholes are, at least, theoretically possible, making the transition from one state to the other, in theory at least, probable in the future.

Don't you rather contradict yourself when saying, "It's a game" then try to debunk some of it's accuracy (although incorrectly)?

Next you will be telling me Santa Claus dosn't exist. All I'm saying is I don't care how accurate or inaccurate it is. It's a game, it gives hours of pleasure, but at the end of the day I switch it off and go back to reality.

We all do, so what is your point?

Quantum entanglement. Something is moving faster than light, or there is no distance between them at all, hyperspace?

Yes, and they usually begin, "I've got 1,200+ hours in this game and I'm not happy with..." Can't be that bad then, cannit?

Well, I play for fun. Some things don't make a shred of logical sense. but I don't care. If everything was super-logical and realistic, it would also be very dull.
It's a game after all, how you enjoy it is entirely up to the player.
Some of the more hardcore Henry players may think that the game is too arcadey for them, and then the instant gratification players think it's too grindy.
And so on... Never will everyone by happy simultaneously. With anything, ever.

So just enjoy the game you paid for! :)

How DARE you. Suggesting such outrageous things. I truly believe every time i get in my asp, I'm flying to a station in space. And anything that breaks that "immersion", well, you know.

Ps. You should play the way i believe is the only correct way also.
