Its a game

I don't believe I have said at any point that ED is 'just' a game, I have said it is a game and I stand by that.

Yes it's a game. Its a game a lot of us like very much. We have fun jumping around the stars and doing all the crazy things we do. We get serious about it because we want to improve it, to make suggestions. To get stuff into the game we think is cool.

Eg. If someone comes along and says xyz types of missions are game breaking and too profitable. (just that nothing else) then it will get ignored. However if someone comes up with a bunch of spreadsheets that PROVES that that xyz missions make x% more than equivalent missions or time spent doing something else, and that it needs looking at... then that will get discussed, possibly thought about by the devs. Just because it's a game does not mean you cant

1). Treat it seriously if you have the time to do so
2). Try to improve it.

Many many people just play the game.. enjoy it how it is and dip in and out having fun. Others get 'involved' :)

I obviously underestimated the passion people have for this game. If scientific accuracy enhances the game for you then who am I to criticise, although that was never my intent. Personally I'm happy to take things on faith, if the game says FLT (etc) is possible that's good enough for me, obviously not for others. I've enjoyed Elite in all it's manifestations since the original and will continue to do so. It's been an interesting discussion......Right on commanders!

We're talking about a segment of the population that will endlessly debate trivia about fictional universes, knowing full well that the mundane answers are things like "the original had a makeup and props budget of five bucks" or "the costume designer digs black leather" or "writer x didn't like writer y". That's part of the fun for them. And by "them", I mean "us". Take the science out of science fiction and you're left with just fiction. Or Star Wars. Ba dum ching.

I have been reading the ultra serious threads about this Game since the start. That's the whole point Its a Game, nothing more. Accuracy is irrelevant, from the fact that according to Albert, faster than light travel is impossible, to every other fantasy specific in the game, its a game so you can have anything happening anywhere, any time. just play it and enjoy it.

Exactly! That's why I've been asking them to include coins to collect between the sun and the stations, giving you a lego button like trail to follow. It would make supercruise more enjoyable if you had stuff to collect the whole way, and then maybe get a bonus multiplier to your credits when you got there if you don't miss a single one!

I keep bumping into those holograms outside the stations, but I have yet to get the power-up mushroom to show up. What's up with that?

I think the next step in Horizons should be to let us push the planets out of orbit with our ships so we can arrange a kind of lawn bowling tournament in space using them. That would be awesome!

And now, my actual reaction to the OP:
