It's All About The Thargoids (Serious, Not Clickbait)

Ever since launch there has been a recurring pattern of features not completely implemented, bugs going unfixed, focus on combat, wings, and open, muddled communications, un-addressed exploits, and many other things.

My opinion it that the Thargoids are behind it.

Not a Thargoid plant, inside Frontier. :)

I think that anything not directly related to the return of the Thargoids has been sidetracked/downplayed, since launch, while the majority of resources are concentration on the Thargoid's debut.

Wings: Only 4 players can defeat one Thargoid. Had to be done first, due to the networking.

Only Open mode can support player wings. Again, networking/instancing.

Endless combat tweaks.

Power Play: How humanity will split up, once the Thargoids arrive.

Engineering: Needed to keep up with Thargoid tech.

Improved NPC's, causing alarm. A dry, test run for Thargoids. Don't think that this has not been improved on.

Beige planets? Concentration on Thargiod related art.

Multi-Crew: Player co-operation versus the Thargoids. That, and store sales. :)

Departure of key persons indicate that the Thargoid project is ready to launch. They are no longer needed as expediters. Quality of life, and filling out of placeholders can now take place, since Thargoids are ready. The resources are free, now.

Developers are now more open to discussing bug fixes, now that they have time. (Note: I respect the individual Dev's)

Secrecy rivaling Operation Overlord has been used for features to be implemented, so as not to spoil The Great Reveal.

Reduced communications on the forums, and reliance on out-of-official PR show that Community Management do not want to commit to public revelations on the official forums. Hence, the livestreams. No promises, no inditements, and/or Federal Grand Juries or Senate Investigations.

Wow. Tin foils, but serious tin foils. That could be true but was it possible to keep all that completely secret ? I thought that the development of ED was made more of day-to-day (or months-to-months) opportunities, optimal resources allocation in one time and best efforts strategies than a full 4-5 years straight 'all-is-already-planned' project...

But yeah what OP says makes sense [alien] or is it just a coincidence ?

(I'm not joking, and sorry English is not my native language so I'm limited in vocabulary. Hope that I can be understood :))

are you thinking they reverse-engineered it from the Thargoids return? It does seem to fit but i'm not convinced that's all true, regardless of how well we think they were integrated, stuff like wings, multi-crew, combat, etc was all wanted by players, combat seemed to get adjusted more because the Engineers unbalanced them and although an assumption, Frontier wanted to "nip in the bud" that to prevent it getting to far out of control (again regardless of personal attribute to how well they did it).

If they did reverse-engineer, fair play to 'em, Thargoids deserve their place in the Elite Universe just as much as Hutton Orbital and CMDR Jameson's memorial.

slightly of topic....
My interpretation of the Thargoid return is they'll hang about their own bubble centred around Merope or the Col 70 sectors (think it's that one that's permit locked presently). If players want to engage, they'll go there to do so. I don't think Thargoids are going to affect the human bubble much as that'll disrupt all new and current players alike.

Yeah... I always had this feeling aswell. A lot of work put into a specific task, in this case the Thargoids, making all the other steps slower to achieve.

I don't blame FD for this kind of planning, I just wish we had a bit more informations coming from them on what they're currently working on, you know.

I feel like all the expectations players are coming up with, like Atmospheric landing or space legs is very dangerous fot the game. FD should make a clear statement of what the current dev plan is and what is next on the list.

To me it's just that FDev are not very good at communication, maybe on purpose, and we all try to figure out why and how things are running at their desks.

You still buy and play the game regardless, so no incentive to "open the kimono".

Also, to date all announcements are generally sliced diced and buried in manure within about 5 mins of release with complaints about "what about this instead" "I'll never use this feature" or "that's rubbish I could do better".

Stipulated. :)

Insanity has saved me much money on all kinds of substance abuses. :)

A careful application of vices can save all kinds of sanity. Guess it's a question of priorities and current state.

On topic, does this thread go shiny-side-in to keep in the brainwaves or shiny-out to prevent detection?

Incidentally, I think beige has been selected, because the Thargiods wanted something besides 70's Avocado. :)

That and the time/resource challenge of fixing the texture problems would have held back 2.4, like every other issue that has gone unresolved.

Yet with all those issues OP is still playing the game in pursuit of the Thargoid carrot expertly dangling in front of the player base for years now while the company is apparently doing very well selling fairly mediocre paint packs/ship kits probably making more profit they ever will in the base game (500% revenue increase last qtr). Fixing bugs--i.e., free maintenance--does not generate additional revenue, so why would they--or any other software development company--do more than the minimum amount of it than absolutely necessary? They will eventually get around fixing the most critical ones, the rest of them will die out naturally during the post-2.4 rewrite of the base game modules as part of the next paid expansion or whatever DLC model they choose to embrace.

The Master Plan is working, secrecy must be maintained. It is enough of a distraction and compelling reason for most players to hang around for the ride or at least stay connected once "interaction" with the aliens will be integrated into the game beyond the occasional cutscenes limited to a chosen few. The Thargoid sites are a first step in that direction and it's been positively received by most players.

I still think this is a video game and the Thargoids are fictional characters. But then again, I'm a Minion and easily fooled.
