ITS Arrived!!

Here is my current file.... zero color tweaks in nvidia/ati control panel
I just used that config with the usual nvidia control panel setting (50% brightness, 0% contrast, etc), standard 1920*1080 resolution and ultra settings (no AA, though) with 1.5 supersampling set in game and, yeah, brilliant! Everything is crisp and pretty clear.

Kudos, my man, for the effort and sharing the wealth!

You're very welcome... but I don't know why you guys are running those settings. 0 contrast? Makes my HMD go completely washed out grey. I leave all color settings alone inside the Nvidia control panel... EXCEPT for the brightness setting I believe. You want to run the panel just a few % over default to make sure the DK2 doesn't turn off pixles. If pixles are going to pure black, they shut off... this is what creates the black smear in the rift.

yup another improvement..Planets look great, i altered texture res in gfx.mls or whatever it is too. thanks.

I only used that setting because of the guidance in the post on here. I only started using SweetFX this week (I'm on Win 8.1 and heard it doens't play nicely then saw the post on here with the newer version).

I'm quite happy to switch everything, nvidia wise, back to normal; I'll give that a try tonight.

The reason why that is in there, is because if you look at the sweetFX settings he is using, Color and Contrast are BOOSTED THROUGH THE ROOF.... so in order to get a normal look, he goes into the nvidia control panel, and has to drop contrast back to 0. Silly. I personally find it terrible advice and is really guiding people in the wrong direction.

Just catching up after a couple of heavy days at work. Really pleased for you - now you see what we were saying? You can't explain the Matrix, you have to see it for yourself :) Likewise with others SweetFX is a must, don't use nVidia DSMR setting and if you haven't done so yet, change the HUD colour - you will be glad you did.

Changed hud color, everything is AS good as its gonna get i suspect, its very playable and amazing. I dont have Nvidia, i have 2 x 280X in crossfire.... wondering if i should wait for the 300 series or upgrade to 2 x 290X's now while theyre a pretty good deal.

The only thing ive not done yet is unpark the cores on my i7 4770K .... is it worth doing?

Edit: I meant to quote the post about setting colour controls in the NVidia control panel...

I independently came to a similar set of settings though, and it was a huge improvement over the previous look - and that was BEFORE I ever set up SweetFX.

Can't explain why it works, but it does. Maybe it's the difference between DVI and HDMI ? After tweaking these settings I realised I hadn't been seeing the space dust since using the Rift !

This, and anisotropic filter settings, give the biggest difference to the visuals for me. I just use SweetFX a for a little bit of sharpening.

AMD have said that they will anounce their 300 line-up early june. So I wouldn't make any decissions before that. My only issue with the 300 series is that it is another 28nm chip. So heat could be an issue again even though the HBM memory should aleviate some of the heat production. So in your case I'd probably hold out for a 3rd party vendor like ASUS, SAPPHIRE, etc. to come up with a better cooling solution. Even though most rumours currently talk of water cooling for the stock AMD card. I still expect 3rd parties to do an even better job.

I heard rumours that a VR specific card would come out with two GPU's on it (comparable to the 285) where each gpu would render one eye using the AMD Liquid VR technology. I currently have a 290x card by SAPPHIRE so I am holding out for a 400 series card as that will be on 14nm FinFET and possibly HBM2 memory (more than 4GB addressable as I currently understand from the recent AMD presentations). That would mean:
- more performance / definately VR capable on high performance
- Even less heat production
- more memory for future performance

Unparking cores sounds like it is save enough to try but with E: D I don't expect it to get you much. Most of the time CPU's aren't bottlenecking with E: D. This might be different for other applications and future Win10+DX12 applications though so give it a try and let us know what it does for you.
