UK current account deficit at new high

The UK's current account deficit widened to a record high in the final quarter of last year.
The deficit in the three months to December was £32.7bn, the equivalent of 7% of GDP, said the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
For all of 2015, it came to £96.2bn or 5.2% of GDP. Both figures were the highest since records began in 1948.
At the same time, the UK economy grew 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2015, higher than previous estimates of 0.5%.
As a result, the economy grew by 2.3% for the whole of 2015, rather than 2.2% as previously thought, according to the ONS.
The current account deficit means that the UK imported considerably more goods and services than it exported.

All our fault people. Cut services, tax cuts for the higher paid. More private schools and hospitals.

After 36 years, do we really want to change now.

Stick with the tyranny we know.

Hey I'm up north and get paid cash in hand. It's bleeding tough up here and there's not many jobs. No women around as they go gold digging elsewhere or get pregnant and get a free house on benefits for single parent!
However, last year my income rose by 8% and is way above the national average ;)
No scare mongering mate!

None intended.

The report does offer a number of possibilities for our dear Chanc of the Ex to recover a few bucks from his recent failure to take a bit from the disabled.

Pleased that you're doing well though. Sounds like you have been ripened just long enough for the Tories to claim you are getting too much.

No alarm intended of course. That being the way of things as they say and we all know.

Nice selective picking of photos! :)

you could easily find pictures of all 4 Tory/libdem ministers in high vis/hard hats (in fact it pretty hard not to find Osbourne in high vis, I think it may be some sort if fetish or maybe he's just nervous). Equally you could find pictures of Sturgeon et al drinking champagne.

Not that I disagree with the sentiment. The steel industry has been hung out to dry by the government. Whilst there is a world overcapacity, steel is a strategic industry and there are real questions about quality control and traceability when it comes to highly specialist steels like you might need for, say, a nuclear power plant. You really need to be able to trust your suppliers so when they say the steel is to spec XYZ it is and they've not just fudged the lab samples or similar.

It's funny, I was negotiating on bulk steel prices from port Talbot about 10 years ago for a cookware range. Back then they couldn't keep up, my material costs were going up so fast that by the time we'd designed the items, the cost had over run and we had to re design to cut costs only to be shafted by price rises again.

I didn't create the image and have no personal problem with anyone wearing a hi-viz vest, (I used to make a living in one) or drinking Champagne. Don't use alcohol myself but don't object to those that do.

The image was in fact created by Alba Scotland For Independence a left wing political grouping.

It's results that count. There is a lot of sympathy among many Scots toward working people in England.
