Its lonely in spaaaace

Just something I wanted to throw out there for all those complaining about griefers and the such.
I have been playing for two weeks now, proud owner of a fat spaceshuttle (adder) for mining and a Viper +800k. During this time I have not seen a SINGLE BREATHING SOUL. Nothing but NPC's and emptyness. Granted is started in solo mode and traveled about 60 lightyears before I dared switch to open in my underpowered sidy but I am now roaming the same stretch of space for days and still not a single "hello" or "give me all your platinum!".
So if you ever feel for some peace and quite, come on over to Argelander Port/ Zemetii. I might not be around for long but who knows....

More people need to understand this. This is one of the reasons I don't really feel that the 'I don't want to pvp' breed of arguments people use to justify staying in solo hold water.
.
There's tons of empty, profitable, safe space out there.

I spent two months in the void. However, I was in regular communication via text with other commanders. Stopped me going mad and talking to nebuli.

Greetings - i've been playing for a few months (4 or 5 now) I started in LHS 3447, i always play in Open Play, never even tried the other modes and i have NEVER had another conversation with another player! I see the odd triangle on the radar, although thinking about it not for a week or so now. I find it very strange - i never lost a ship yet (kinda want a mad player to come and blow me up!), still enjoy the game though and look forward to playing...

Depends on where you are.
I also wonder where all the players who DO play on open go to.
Last few weeks, I'm always to be seen near Antal for that community goal.
Depending on time of day, that system varies from having a few commanders to being really crowded. There's always some human activity.
Most are silent, some are nice, and there are at least two pirates active over there. So far, I've never encountered a real griefer.
But the moment I jump to another nearby system, doesn't matter which one, I hardly ever see anyone.
Sometimes one or two jumping in and out near the star while I'm enroute to a station, but that's about it.

This game needs more people in open.
My suggestion: remove solo mode!!

No no! stop hitting me! That was a joke! A JOKE I say!! ;)
-
Wasn't joking about the need for more people in open though.
If you're scared about being shot down for nothing, do some risk analysis before you go to a certain place.
You can always try to avoid, run or outsmart your opponents.
You won't always succeed, but this game isn't called DANGEROUS for nothing.
Learn, adapt, make mistakes and try again.

yeah, ok.. got a bit into rambling mode here.. just my 2 cents about how I think about solo vs open.
Make this galaxy alive people!

Just go to a famous/starter/community goal/control/power HQ system and you should encounter plenty of players. Time of day is also a factor as others have pointed out. There's always plenty of players around the Lave cluster (be warned a lot of them are veteran pirates). There's usually lots of lower ranked players in and around Eravate.

Quoted for truth.
I'm not in this game for PVP action. Wasn't a fan of it in WoW, not a fan of it here. But I feel I know the risks, and I play in Open. I don't really understand the idea of buying a game that is completely online, has been designed as the most massive of MMORPGs out there, and then saying "I don't want to see anyone, I don't want to talk to anyone, I'm playing on my own!"

Triangles? I thought human players were hollow squares?
Anyhoe I know that its busy in Lave, but everybody is in Lave, I hate mainstream (no im not hipster). I like my corner of space, on the edge of Lavigny space, which seems to be the most populair power. Good mining grounds, some civil wars and Emperors Grace faction. Only thing I need to find is a good high tech station. I need better weaponry.
Time of day may be a cause, but then again I cant play one the moments that Yanks do (is there info about the spread of players around the globe?)

Solid Triangle = NPC with hardpoints deployed
Solid Square = NPC with hardpoints retracted
Hollow Triangle = CMDR with hardpoints deployed
Hollow Square = CMDR with hardpoints retracted
