It's Manifesto Season...

... so I was thinking about pledges and promises.

On 14/11/14, in Newsletter #49, David Braben announced there would be no single player mode. I didn't mind one bit, not then nor now. Others did though and that occupied the zeitgeist for the next few weeks. Hardly anything else got discussed for a while.

Lost in the noise, perhaps, it was also announced that there would eventually be 30 playable ships as well as...

"...free access for Beta and Alpha backers to one of the 5 new ships that David announced in his piece above when it’s released!"

I was wondering what became/will become of that?

Still coming. The amount of effort that goes into designing a ship and the work involved in extending it to the oculus rift is huge.

There's no "extending it to the oculus rift". All the cockpits are appropriately scaled 3D models right from the get-go.

Logically, those 5 ships will be later than the 25 initial ships originally planned. Since we're on 17, there are 8 more to go (we've seen previews for 3, the Imperial Courier, Federal Corvette and the Diamondback coming up) before these will start to surface.

On top of the previous 20 mentioned, I think we will see the Imperial Cutter (big Imperial ship), Dolphin liner (Saud Kruger medium ship), Beluga liner (Saud Kruger huge ship) and Panther Clipper (huge trader, apparently Zorgon Peterson).

This leaves one 'mystery' originally planned ship, before the 5 which we don't know anything (but I'm hoping for a new company to get involved for a new aesthetic).
