It's much nicer...

without the orbit lines showing.

I actually look at the planets not just the line.

I just turned it off today and liked it.

Thatisallthankyou.

I remember all the threads requesting it to be an option that you can toggle back in the Beta days. Funnily enough, a lot of those people left the lines on after getting the option as they found it hard to get used to playing without them. :p

I never minded the orbit lines myself but I do appreciate the option to turn them off should I want to.

I was about to write the same thing :)

They never bothered me as well. I turned them off once, but was utterly lost without them. They're part of the HUD I guess.

They are nice to have on when getting to a weird system, to see what sort of silly orbits are present there. But yes, it is a nice clean UI without the lines on, and I fly most of the time like that.

Does it still take them off the suns?

I loved them off the planets and moons but i ended up getting too close to suns because of them missing and after a 2 week exploration, it was just too risky.

I shut them off for a good long while just to see space not covered in circles of spaghetti, but put them back on when I was doing more standard flights so I could navigate a bit better. It's nice to have the option; they seem less obtrusive if you know you can kill them at will.

Ah yeah i can see how they are still very useful there.

I don't see the point of them once you have the advanced discovery scanner. I only ever really used them to help me find planets in between two orbits when I was exploring with a basic or intermediate scanner. With the ADS everything in the system is pinged and on the Nav panel so there's no reason in my mind to keep the lines on ... screen looks much cleaner without them.

I've turned them off a number of times over the last week and every time I log back in, they are back on again..

Yup I am a no orbit lines person too.
I had a problem recently and for some reason the system kept forgetting my Obit Lines Off setting every time I started and it would put the orbit lines on urgh! Lines everywhere in busy systems, space not empty, noooo couldn't handle it. They fill space that should be empty. now there is vast emptiness and planets and bodies float in space instead of being tied there with a piece of string :)
Hehe a friend came over that occasionally plays ED and made the comment, "hey why does yours look so much better than mine?...Did they upgrade the graphics recently?" It took him a second or two to realise the only difference was that there were no orbit lines and now he is seeing the objects floating in space instead of surrounded by intersecting lines and circles..

Yes same.... also don't get me started on the advanced discovery scanner, that took the actual skill and fun out of exploration for me.

Now all we need is the option to turn off the blue circles that pop out around the planets as you get near them. :p

wait till you jump to a system with a dwarf star....their gravitational radius is wwaaaaay more than they let on and the orbit lines kinda let you know where it is. without them you run the risk of dropping next to the star. in an anaconda thats guaranteed heat damage with a bill of atleast 50k
