It's on the verge of being amazingly awesome...

You can almost taste it ... the framework is there for amazing player interactions, back and forth struggles between player factions ... PP could be a great answer to guilds. Almost there, but it just needs:

- COMMS and MORE COMMS. You've built a gameplay structure that encourages and even requires player coordination, but have provided no tools whatsoever for them to coordinate. Global, power-specific chat is an absolute must, in my opinion this should be the #1 priority to improve the powerplay experience. Above all else.

- Bulletin Board integration. I read this point somewhere else on these forums, and it's just so true: even the lowliest soldier gets paid for his service. The monetary rewards for PP activities are weak at best. But instead of jacking them up, why not add missions to the bulletin board system that support the various powers? Players can have their cake and eat it too, because in the end that's what we want. We want powerplay to be worth it, and I'm not talking moral victories. Cold, hard cash.

- Voting should be way more important than it is. Votes shouldn't be just about picking prep systems for expansion. We should be able to vote on a number of things that govern the power - such as official, game-supported alliances, or changes to rewards, or targets for undermining, or location of the Power's HQ, and on and on. The voting power could be so much more than it is and give players a real reason to grind those ranks, something that is impactful to the game as a whole. The hardcore guys would love it because their time investment would have real meaning besides credits - they could truly impact the course of the galaxy.

Some of us that complain about Powerplay aren't doing it to troll FD or other players, but because it's soooo close to being an amazing experience, agonizingly close really. Come on, let's get some of these things done FD and we will see the kind of emergent gameplay that builds a positive reputation in the wider gaming community.

Praise, Advice and Constructive Criticism.
- and all in the same post?
This is so rare it brought a tear to my eye reading it. Have some Rep, Commander!

Edit: oh, and my vote, ofc!

Agreed on every point.

I remain vaguely hopeful that Frontier will get there, but no harm sending some constructive support while we wait.

I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement in power-play, and some have made some excellent points here and on reddit, but its only been out five days. I've little doubt FD will make changes over the coming weeks and months but I'm really enjoying the game; actions have meaning and context and killing other players from another faction has a legitimate purpose. Meaningful PvP.. wasn't that what a lot of people were asking for?

Obviously my own personal bug bears remain. Instancing and grouping is still buggy and can be frustrating *at times* and I dunno how solo fits in with power-play since we have no way of interacting with players we can't see.

I suppose have expected a lot from Frontier in the past, and at times they fell a bit short, but with 1.3 they have produced a great bit of content for us and clearly made a huge effort in doing so. They surely deserve credit for that. ;)

Wow, ditto with the first reply, but I can't +1 because it says I've done that too much.

My vote is here!

I repped him for you.

EDIT: And I repped you, just because!

Yes good going, FD. Game is awesome, and a lot of the bugs etc are only out there because you aren't glossing them over. Which is great!

:D S

I think in a week or two we'll be all mashed up and in each others faces. It's the first week and each power is decidedly distant enough from each other. In about two weeks from this week i'd say it'll be all out carnage with players fighting it out in one way or another as borders cross.

I would like to see faction specific in-game channels specifically. Would be nice but I doubt it would add too much strategy. Other than that missions to attack enemy controlled space and take out something akin to a raid target(Command carrier?), requiring a wing or multiple wings to take down. Conversely, there'd be a counter mission for the defending power to defend against it and hold the enemies off from destroying the carrier as long as possible(Obviously this would be down to %'s). Great way to promote group play and add another layer onto the game.

I agree with all your points OP, what ED is really missing is a chance to really connect with the other players we're really lacking an effective interface for communication! I'd love nothing more than chatting with other players in a global chat while on a long space journey. +1!

I agree, power-chat is a tactical addition. For top down strategy I have other ideas that are based on the kinds of things we should be able to vote on - alliances, trade agreements, etc., that I detailed in another thread.

Once we're all on top of each other, the lack of in-game comms is going to be exacerbated. It will be chaos. Some people will coordinate on reddit, some people will coordinate on threads here that get buried after 5 minutes, some groups will coordinate on their own websites. It's just very fragmented right now.

If Frontier don't capitalise on the organisation and excitement happening on the Reddit Power subs, and build this into the game with some kind of comms/board system somehow, they would be crazy.

Glancing at the subreddit for Hudson tonight for 10 mins to get a feel for what everyone is getting up to before logging in - brilliant.

On the other hand, maybe using external sites/forums is just how things are done nowadays? I've just spotted that the Lave Radio guys have channels for the individual powers on their teamspeak.

So much this!
FD have finally injected depth and life into the game.
I now feel part of something big and important, there is some way to go still but the future sure is looking good.
I agree about the Reddit Power Subs It's the first thing I check out before logging in, An in game "War Room" would go a long way in Comms within the game.
Another small thing and I'm not sure if it's been brought up, but something I feel would make players have a real connection with their Power would be Power specific decals for our ships when reaching certain merit or rep points, An Aislings Angels Decal for example.

As to my understanding the global chat will never be implemented, otherwise you would need to implement other things like knowing the prices of goods on a station in nearby system ... This will 'spoil' universe feeling FD is trying to achieve.

Interesting, though, how the Galnet is spreading momentarily, though?

Yes, the Lore argument is no longer valid now that we get Galnet in our ships.

Despite what others might thing on my thread, I do agree.

If each patch was a race, then ED is winning Bronze every time right now - lets step it up to silver and aim for GOLD!

Yah huh.. Ever since 1.0 ED's been a great platform on which they have ALMOST built a great game. The patches have all improved the platform but never quite reached the game. Even PP -could- be good (and I really WANT it to be good) but so far it's just like it's a "picture of a good game" rather than being a real game... nice to look at but lacking any real substance once you scratch the surface.

Power-wide messaging should probably be a thing. Forget consistent logic; gameplay > realism after all, isn't that right FDEV?

Powers should be able to disseminate information between themselves securely, and keep their strategic and tactical ideas private. Obvious and persistent saboteurs should be cast out and hunted down. New powerplayers will get things wrong and should be forgiven. Repeated incompetence when the stakes are so high should be regarded as identical to malice, and the perpetrator treated as such.

Its a no from me regarding global chat, after dropping in to Founders to pick up some of the new ships reading local chat was enough to remind me how nice it is not to have it.

A bunch of CMDRs declaring how amazing they are and claiming to be able to kill anyone just by looking at them. That was just 10 CMDRs... try having a global chat with 1000's of keyboard warriors, anything meaningful would soon be lost in a wash of teenage angst.

A better voting system or at least a way of putting up targets for everyone in the power to see might be useful though. Either people still don't get powerplay or there are a lot of people working against powers, the amount of rubbish systems that have massive preparation is crazy.

I like what you are saying. Its true that PP added a lot. And a lot of the stuff like adding COMMS would be simple small things to add that would add so much to the game. Im stoked for the next few years, crazy amount of potential to achieve (and tons of potential already achieved).
