It's The Little Things!

This game is amazing, but the little things keep my head shaking in disapproval.
YES! This game is a beta! < I know, no need to tell me thanks ;)

I remember watching a video where Mr Braben was talking a lot about the polish of the game, and not rushing to do too much at once. That's all well & good, but when there has been problems since beta1 and release day is coming up, my crossed fingers seem to be getting tighter by the day.

Exporting goods & commodities market - Screenshot one is the galaxy map showing Aulin exports Performance enhancers. Screenshot 2 shows this is a lie and they do not have any in stock, hmmm. Also there is issues with selecting systems on the map, the icon to click them is not there but I know you can bring info on them up, select the system from the ships navigation and it will be selected on the galaxy map.

The galaxy map music - There is no way to turn it off or down. Listening to a playlist and going on the galaxy map is a horrible encounter to the ears < Maybe there is a way and Ive just not found it...?

There's loads of little things we could all mention, but until release day we will just have to wait to find out. I hope on that day it's the polished finish were all excited for.

One love,

So you have never gone to a store that normally carries widgets, to buy a widget, only to find out that they are out of widgets today?

The audio is an easy fix. Beta 3 added individual audio options including one for the Galaxy Map. Pause Menu > Settings > Audio > hit the "off" button for the music you don't want to hear.

As for the trade indications of the map, those have never been up-to-the minute thus far, and usually indicate trends, not current activity. If there's no demand or supply and the map indicates it was an export, they probably ran out of the item through player trading. It's pretty easy to do for high-value items, which often have low stock due to their implied production complexity (or perhaps unknown to us, a requirement for an import of an item used in their production).

Finally, I'd expect Gamma to reveal massive changes in the trade UI on all fronts, as what we're testing is very basic and featureless. I don't expect the trend arrows in the Galaxy Map to be more responsive, but I would hope for more information about how everything works, i.e. numbers and percentages. Hopefully some sort of log system too.

Works much better outside of the starter systems. Still some issues there, but generally good.

The starter systems will be out of stock b/c that is where everyone starts trading...the market there is wrecked. Now, if there was some kind of visual indication that they are currently out of stock, that'd be nice but I think it opens up a whole can of worms

I would hope that you raise support tickets for each of the things you mention rather than "waiting to find out." :p

As far as the problems with the galaxy map and economy go - we will see another complete alteration of the proc-genned systems at Gamma, or I'll eat my non-existent space-hat. I expect the ongoing process of adding and changing stuff (tourism, neutron stars and black holes, other planetary stuff, all the currently unobtainable resources, stronger faction identities, whatever) to the relevant code will require such reworking that we end up with a substantially different system.
(E.g., at the moment the proc-gen code is broken in such a way that some star systems are marked as having massive populations when there are no inhabitable planets or stations in them; if the proc-gen code is being changed this problem may simply disappear as other things are rewritten.)

Actually that's probably how its supposed to work but doesn't always. I've ticketed quite a few systems that show exports/imports that the station has never had. The map's system view will often also show that a station buys/sells things that it doesn't or say things are legal when they aren't. I sort of wonder if the map has got some legacy data from a previous build lost in there somewhere. I'm hoping it'll all be sorted in the next build as it's quite frustrating. :)

Yes but that store would at least have a shelf with a label on advertising widgets even if it was out of stock and if you asked the store staff they would tell you that they are waiting for a delivery. That screenshot above shows there is no supply EVER of widgets.

-_-

Another little annoyance to add, prohibited items are not always listed!
It's pointless doing the research so you dont get fined... Just been fined in LHS 306 for having tobacco... yet it's not prohibited in the list! < Narcotics is not tobacco as far as I'm aware. Makes me laugh how they export it but it's prohibited...
These kinds of things that keep happening just make me quit the game. Gamma/release it is for me then.

I ticketed this problem a while ago. It seems some commodities are never there, even though the export colour/path to other systems is displayed.
