ITT: Tell the story of how you became a pilot

It was a dark night on my homeworld. A light rain had just begun to touch the soil as the sounds of gunfire rang out through the plains.

Thinking quickly, I ran to my wife in an attempt to get her to safety, but it was to late. The pirates warned us that if we didn't pay up there would be casualties this time.

In rage, I lunged at the murderer and fought as if I had nothing left to lose. The loss of everything my life had ever stood for swelled inside my chest as my anger kept building beyond my boiling point. I was no longer human. In that moment, I had become the embodiment of hatred itself.

Wasting no time, and with my wife's killer bleeding out on my floor, I looked up to the sky through my broken roof.

They were here. All three of them. The Triad had claimed this system for themselves and they were doing their best to... cleanse it.

I looked to my wife's body. I looked at the body of her killer. I looked at the Sidewinder he had flown in on.

I had no choice. I had lost everything. I was no longer a man.

I was vengance.

I ripped the suit from the lifeless corpse of the space pirate and ran to what I now claimed as my ship. Grabbing the helm atop the dashboard and slamming into onto my head, I started the power plant and prepared the thrusters for an emergency take off.

Wasting no time, I charged the ship's pulse lasers and unleashed the fires of hell upon the pirates that had ruined my life in one swift strike.

First came their leader. Taking him out caused the other two to fear me.

Then came their assault ship. Taking him out caused the last one to beg me.

Then came their cargo ship. Taking him out gave me silence from the screaming.

This is my life now. I will avenge every life taken by wrongdoing.

I will destroy every last trace of piracy.

And I will enjoy it.

My father got an assignment on Okinawa, Japan in the early 90's. We had to do our inprocessing paperwork when we first got there and we had to go Kadena Air Base which for those that dont know has a lot of fighters as well as other types of aircraft. But anyways we were driving on the perimeter road and we were just driving past the edge of the runway when an F15 flew right directly over us coming in for a landing. It was probably about 75-100 feet above us but it was pretty big and loud. Thats when i knew that i wanted to become a pilot...IRL.

Other noteable things that influenced me: we lived off base in Kadena in an area called "Sunabe" which was near the seawall and F-4's (which were still flying at the time) used to always take off and zoom right past where we lived. Also while at school the SR-71's (which had not been taken out of commission yet) flew right over the school playground and i knew exactly what they were and what kind of plane they were since there was lots of memorabilia sold on base saying what they were. Ohh and for a time we also lived on Iwakuni which is a Marine Corp Air Station. And i got to see Harriers do vertical landings from maybe 300-500 feet away (perimeter road ran close to their VTOL pad). And let me tell you Harriers are loud as foooook.

Unfortunately i never got to become a pilot IRL i just play them in games. My eyesight and color vision were just too bad. Lasik and other types of eye surgery wasnt a thing yet back in those days. Sorry i couldnt come up with anything fictional...so i just decided to write some real stuff :p

I just spawned here. Have you guys seen a blue flag? I don't know why, I feel a desperate need of getting one.

I was brought up on the research station in Eden, Alpha Centauri. My parents were both scientists researching something or other, I only remember it to be boring. Anyways, I spent a lot of time at Hutton Orbital. And didnt get out much. I think I clocked an entire year in the simulators before I was 17. At which point I wanted to leave. The new Frame Shift Drives had come out the year before, and I knew it was the only way I was leaving the accursed Hutton Orbital. A poor pilot who had come to deliver some fresh fruit and veg left his Sidewinder on the docking pad unattended. I snuck in and took off before he could realise what had happened. I applied for entry into the pilots federation, and they sent me to the LHS 3447 system to aquire my Ship- another Sidewinder. I cant help but feel sorrow and gratitude for that pilot. I wonder if he ever made it off the outpost...

I took ownership of the Cobra that I used to escape slavery. I learned to fly a crappy sidewinder because the captors would prefer to send expendable slaves to do errands to risky locations rather than well paid pilots.

"Steal Dad's Cobra!?"

Joe had a massive smile on his face "Borrow it.

I've been on Galnet. This old model of Cobra's locks are easy to pick. We owe it to Dad to learn how to fly. Just think how useful we'll be to help mine the rocks. The earlier we learn, the better pilot's we'd be and the more useful to Dad."

Joe's speech was noble but he was staring out at the asteroid field as he said it. He was thinking about how to dodge and weave between them. Joe was spaceship crazy. His bedroom wall was plastered with pictures of his favourite ring racers.

I scowled at my brother, "You're an idiot! What does this lever do?" As I sat in the pilot's chair and had my foolish brother go over the controls with me, I realised I could have no better a teacher.

Lived on a backwater planet outside the bubble for 14 years, until I got into a chase with a bunch of smugglers - turns out I'd stolen their shipment, or at least part of it. They pursued me all the way out to the colony outskirts, where I was attacked by an Imperial vessel from the low atmosphere. They offered me the chance to get out of there, on their ship, in return for the goods I stole. Obviously I accepted. I don't take chances with those Imperials - nasty business - they locked up the system governor for just speaking out against them! Now I'm a part of that group of smugglers, but they often let me take their scout ship out on excursions to do smaller jobs in the local sector. I only need to pay for the fuel!
