Itty-Bitty Animal Changes Before the Support Plug is Pulled!

First of all huge thank you to Frontier for making such a beautiful game! I think I can speak for everyone when I say that Planet Zoo is something truly special, and we are all grateful to be a part of the incredible community the game has created!

I want to compile some highly requested itty-bitty changes that would make the game experience more enjoyable. These are things like habitat requirements, enrichment, interspecies bonuses, etc. I would love to add more changes to this initial post that other animal nerds would like to see as well! In hopes of getting the most changes made, it would be good to limit these changes a bit. I've gone ahead and added a few to start, but I would like this to be a mostly collaborative process. So if you don't like what I've done, tell me!
*I'm not adding model or rig changes because they have been discussed quite extensively in other threads and are out of the scope of what I want the thread to be.

1. Animal Name Changes:
  • African Buffalo-> Cape Buffalo
  • Hippopotamus-> Common or Nile Hippopotamus
  • Pronghorn Antelope-> Pronghorn
  • Pygmy Hippo-> Pygmy Hippopotamus (Update Scientific Name As Well)
  • Siberian Tiger-> Amur Tiger (The term "Siberian tiger" is outdated and has been switched to "Amur tiger" which is more accurate)
  • Takin-> Sichuan Takin
  • Timber Wolf-> Gray Wolf (The term "timber wolf" is used to informally describe many gray wolf subspecies)
  • Would Require Slight Reclassification:
  • Formosan Black Bear-> Asiatic Black Bear
  • West African Lion-> Lion (No need to indicate this population as it's not relevant to ex situ conservation)
  • Western Chimpanzee-> (Common) Chimpanzee (Same deal as the lion)
2. Biome/Terrain/Location Changes:
  • Aardvark-> Add Desert Tag
  • American Alligator-> Add Tropical Tag (They are found in subtropical coniferous forests and mangroves)
  • Cheetah-> Add Asia Tag
  • Colombian White-Faced Capuchin Monkey-> Remove North America Tag
  • Gemsbok-> Add Grasslands Tag (Range extends into grasslands; Reduce Sand Requirement)
  • Fossa-> Add Grasslands Tag (They are characteristically found in Madagascar's spiny forest- a xeric scrubland)
  • Jaguar-> Add Desert Tag (Few individuals are found in the Sonoran Desert in both Mexico and USA)
  • Red Deer-> Add Africa Tag
  • Ring-Tailed Lemur-> Add Grasslands Tag (They are also characteristically found in Madagascar's spiny forest)
  • Saltwater Crocodile-> Add Grasslands Tag
  • Spectacled Flying Fox-> Add Asia Tag
3. Habitat Size Adjustments:
  • Black-Tailed Prairie Dog-> Reduce Land Requirement For Additional Prairie Dogs
  • Crocodilians-> (American Alligator, Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman, Gharial, Saltwater Crocodile, Spectacled Caiman)->Reduce Land & Water Requirement
  • Hippopotamus-> Reduce Land & Water Requirement (Currently almost unusable in Franchise Mode as guests complain about views)
  • North American Beaver-> Reduce Land & Water Requirement
  • Platypus-> Reduce Land & Water Requirement
4. Behaviors/Sociality:
  • Add Deep Swimming to the Nile Monitor
  • Increase Maximum Nyala Group Size (Up to 10 individuals at least; groups of 30 have been recorded)
  • Increase Maximum Plains Zebra Group Size (Up to 10 individuals at least)
5. Enrichment:
  • Add Termite Mounds to the Aardvark
  • Add More Toy Enrichment to the Reticulated Giraffe
  • Add More Food Enrichment to the Greater Flamingo and Red Crowned Crane (i.e. Slow Feeder)

  • Add Scarecrow Feeder and Melon Feeder to Appropriate Base Game Hoofstock (African Buffalo, American Bison, Bactrian Camel, Black Wildebeest, Bongo, Gemsbok, Nyala, Okapi, Plains Zebra, Pronghorn Antelope, Sable Antelope, Springbok, Thomson's Gazelle)

Add Hammock
I think there's a lot more animals that can do hammocks too IRL, but in line with the animal models, I'd add giant pandas as well unless red pandas can use with the clouded leopard animation lol.

Not mentioned but perhaps remove giant anteaters and okapis from being able to walk in their habitat, cuz in reality they'd either shy away or turn aggro.

Interspecies enrichment

Red River Hog

Remove: Chimpanzee and Hippo
Add: African Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Southern White Rhino

Malayan Tapir

Add: Babirusa

African Elephant

Add: African Buffalo, Black Wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Common Ostrich, Plains Zebra, Red River Hog, Reticulated Giraffe, Sable Antelope, Southern White Rhinoceros, Springbok

My top requested small change that hasn’t been mentioned would be to adjust the name of the Hippopotamus to a fuller Common Hippopotamus or Nile Hippopotamus. The word ‘Hippopotamus’ could refer to either of the two species. It’s always bugged me just a little.

I updated the post with everyone's requests!

I've gone ahead and quite a few other species that I think should use the hammock too Thoughts?

Ok, and the controversial lion classification. I would like to request it to be changed to just "lion". Objections?

I remember one that has been bugging me these 4 years:
Increase zebra herd size cap to 10 at least! I mean really, if their max is just 6 animals, all the zoos worldwide would have a hard time managing zebras!! 😅
You got it! I cant believe I missed this! Plains zebras in particular live in large harems. With enough space, groups of 6+ have been highly successful!

I found these statements in the AZA ungulate profiles (2019):
Babirusa: Mixed species: Successfully mixed with small-clawed otters, anoa (juvenile), and gibbon species. Babirusa are usually not aggressive towards exhibit-mates.
Nyala: Multiple males can be housed together in bachelor groups (how many depends on space and management). Add interest to existing exhibits: nyala mix well with many species.
