Horizons ive come back to this great game, and got horizons

hi everyone, ive got a anaconda and im a trader. as im new to the ship and horizons, what is the most cargo crates i can fit in the ship, due to we have the planet landing module fitted in the ship. has anyone noticed fuel scoop not working all of the time as its a big pain to me as im a long distance trader. i jumped 43 times on my route and the scoop didnt work 6 times it was three times in a row nearly ran out of fuel. dont worry im using the right stars lol. many thanks

Welcome back, commander.
1) If you'd like to tinker with the setups, coriolis.io is a great site to do so without having to visit the outfitting.
2) Planetary landing suite is an extra module that doesn't steal space on your ship (nor the weight) Only if you choose to equip the SRV hangar, you'll have to sacrifice a part of your cargo hold. Hangars come in classes 2, 4 and 6 (they can fit 1, 2 and 4 buggies, respectively) and two ratings - "H" is heavier and uses less power and "G" is lighter but more power-hungry
3) Not all stars are scoopable. Only the ones from class M up. You can filter the gal map to show only those and check your travel route for longer strings of consecutive unscoopables and avoid them or prepare accordingly (Extra fuel tank or better FSD)
4) If you are going to land on the planet, be sure to have thrusters strong enough to handle it. Conda can be tricky. If you only use "D" rated thrusters to save the weight and gain jump range, avoid planets that have more than 3g. You can check that in bottom right corner of the Orbital HUD.

thanks for the help chris, i changed my thrusters down to a d, and that has taken some jumps off my route. the stars im scooping from are the correct stars, if i cant scoop off that star i go to the next system then come back to the same star i couldnt scoop from then it works. that was a little test i done. ive had three stars in a row that i couldnt scoop from but those stars you can scoop from in normal play.

actually any thruster, which you can fit on a ship, allow you to land and start from a planet. it just takes longer (e.g. approach in max. -10/-20 degree, and leave in +10/+20 degree... takes a while, but even works on achenar 3....).

that fuelscooping sounds strange. you are sure you have been close enough the first time?

I've not come across the fuel scoop problem. The only workaround I can think of is log out then back in to the non Horizons version. Scoop, then back to Horizons.

Definitely report it though. It is a bug and if it only affects a few players (as I say, I don't get the issue), it may not have been reported yet.

That's true. What I should have said was If you want to land safely and easily.
If you're a good crafty pilot, you CAN land with anything, like goemon said.

Test out landing first in a normal ship, not an anaconda.

And for scooping - you were probably just too far away. I've made about 5k jumps in the last month with 0 scooping problems.

You are probably trying to scoop from TAURI stars. They look like a normal Red Dwarf, but they are not and are not scoopable. Next time you run into this problem, go into the SYSTEM MAP and check the STAR TYPE of the problem star and I bet you anything it is a TAURI.

I run a class A6 scoop on my Corvette and do a lot of jumping. I have not run into any problems with the fuel scoop in any version of 2.0 all the way up to this latest version of 2.1. (2.1.04)

thanks for the replies guys, ive checked and the stars are not tauri. i have got so close to one of the stars, i over heated with no collection of fuel so im flying at the right height as i do long distance hauling myself.

The scoop should activate long before you are close enough to encounter any significant heat increase.

What kind of stars are these though? Tauris are just one in a long list of non-scoopable star types. Many of them don't physically look any different than their scoopable counterparts. You can check the ED Wiki under Fuel Scoop or Star Types to get more info.

EDIT> If you have confirmed beyond all doubt that the star you are trying to scoop from is indeed a scoopable star type, then I would suggest submitting a bug report and/or a support ticket. While highly unlikely, you could have some kind of problem with your individual ED account which is causing your Fuel Scoop not to function properly. But again... HIGHLY UNLIKELY to be the case.

The other thing to check is your MODULEs page on the right hand panel in your cockpit. Make sure that the Fuel Scoop is checked (powered up) and you have enough power to run the scoop and its priority is set to (1). (Total deployed power is best to be kept just below 100% eg: 99% or less)

Regarding the fuel scoop - there are stars that, although they are of a "scoopable class", you can't scoop fuel of them.
They are either unusual in their chemistry with Hydrogen levels in their corona below that of the L-type stars, or it is an occasional bug.

In my experience of almost 100kLY traveled, it's like one or two in a hundred.

I would definitely report the specific star system to FD in a bug report then. I don't think the game design is meant to have any outliers of any of the scoopable classes. If the star is indeed one of the scoopable classes, yet your fuel scoop fails to activate normally, this is definitely a bug.

Could be a problem limited to outside the bubble areas of the BGS? I've never run into this problem myself, although in the early days before I discovered TAURI class stars, I was definitely convinced that there was a bug with the fuel scoop. But upon closer examination of all the systems I was having this problem with (I made a list over time) they all proved in reality to be NON scoopable stars. So there wasn't actually a bug, it was just pilot error on my part.

If impatient just upload a vid of what you're doing with a system map check of the star and view of modules panel.

We should hopefully spot any issues if there are any, and if not, then your bug report will be backed up (read: watched by) scores of (read: a few people with too much spare time) knowledgeable (read: this is questionable at best) experts (read: forum dwellers).

I'd generally fit D-rated gear in a trader (except FSD and Powerplant) especially an Anaconda as things like sensors for it are        ' huuuge. And, yeah, O-B-A-F-G-K-M (though, yeah, you might encounter a bug that I have never seen before) - I have those checked on the Galaxy Maps star class filter so I can quickly find a near-by scooping location when doing long-range trips and running concerningly low on juice.
