I've decided to torture myself by limiting my brand new alt account to Sidewinder only. I wish to expand on my combat skill and game knowledge.

And I've decided the best way is to, like some other CMDRs, limit myself to everyone's fav starter ship, the Sidewinder! I know that there have been great accomplishments in Sidewinders by CMDRs in this community, so I was hoping I could get some advice and tips here, on the ED forums! I am interested in recommended builds and such, and I believe I will mainly focus on Bounty Hunting, exploration, and maaaayyyybbbeeee in the future when I am more experienced, a bit of light Anti-Xeno. On my main, I actually haven't got any Guardian modules, so if someone could explain to me the know how and the how to do it in a Sidey, it'd be greatly appreciate, because wow, I really need that potential 10 extra LYs.

I am also curious about max engineering a Sidey, something many CMDRs will find easy to do with their Haulaconda's, but something I will find to be very difficult in my brand new Sidey, no doubt!

I'll try and fly dangerous with your tips and info CMDRs! For my rebuy is tiny, and my recklessness, exponentially larger!
 
Sidewinder is my fav ship.

Engineer it and it has the best orthogonal thrusters in the game so flies like an SLF.

Super nimble and after the extra slots it can do everything but deep core mining

Fab ship to learn FA off with fixed guns too because the weapon convergence points are so close! Also, so cheap you don't fear crashes

However, although your combat skills in PvE will reach new heights, it will not necessarily improve your combat skills in PvP sadly.

True! I shan't have to worry about PvP, though, unless it comes to me. Only time I will voluntarily start doing PvP is when FDev buffs the hell out of it, until then, it's NPC hunting time! Maybe with Oddessy they will make other playstyles economically viable! BIG Maybe

- you want enhanced performance thrusters, a module you can buy at farseer, martuuk and palin. engineer them and enjoy.

- as for weapons, use railguns to punch above your weight, or, if that is to complicated, cannons are the small weapon with the highest hull penetration value beside railguns

- small hardpoints have a small total damage pool, so bring a laser weapon with you, synthesis or engineer railguns with plasma slug special and fit an extra fueltank

- the standard fueltank of a sidey is small, best to always have a fuelscoop

- enjoy! i personally prefer the eagle, but especially conflictzones are great in small ships, if you fly tactical.

You need a size 5 slot to get the fsd booster big enough for the 10ly increase. With a sidey you'd be limited to 4ly (size 1 internal slot) or 6ly (size 2).
