Newcomer / Intro I've done another stupid thing: run low on fuel !

[KRU BARANKI said:
Out of fuel, if you plan mutliple jumps in a single route you can buy fuel scoop module - saves A LOT of time when the tank is refilled after almost every jump.
Recently I was trying to reach 120LY route to sell painites, I had no fuel scoop installed and obviously I realised at the end that I won't reach destination on this fuel. I lost an hour on finding a proper landing pad to refuel my ship. Next time I just equipped 7A fuel scoop and the stars now give me fuel extremely fast :). ]

Well, I thought I had bought one but can't find it on board.

At the moment I'm being told this:

TOO LATE!!! While writing this my ship was destroyed!!!! And I now get this: see attached

Help on what to do please ........

Are you in a system with a station you can dock at?

If not, do you have enough fuel to get to a system where you can dock?

Edit 1: If not, do you have a fuel scoop and are you in a system with a scoopable star (classes K, G, B, F, O, A, M)?

If not, call the fuel rats: https://fuelrats.com/

If you lack a fuel scoop, are in a system without scoopable stars, no stations and not enough fuel to jump out, you can contact the fuel rats.

I knew someone would get the link quicker than I could. Are you a fuel rat yourself? I prefer the "Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me" rhyme.

You can pick either choice, they spawn you in the same system but different stations.

If you would have bought a new ship there would have been an option on the list to buy back that ship (5%of total value in cost) on the left list. Since you only got the free sidewinder with free modules you don't have to pay anything.

To use a fuel scoop, when docked at a station which has outfitting, on the main station menu you see outfitting on the right side. If you go into outfitting, then optional modules, that's where you can get a fuel scoop. Bigger slots can have bigger scoops which refill faster. You fuel by flying close to the star in super cruise. If you fly too close you will be dropped out of super cruise.

If you do fly too close to the star, you need to point away from it. Wait until the FSD cooldown is gone, then activate super cruise again. This will produce a lot of heat so don't use the thruster boost.

As part of my learning process, even though I've been destroyed, I think it would be useful to reply to the post generated before I "died" ....... if you see what mean .... Replies would be welcome.

OK. Understand. (y)

No

Quote: "For the future, note that your ship also got a fuel consumption/h. This is how much fuel you use having it on. In your right hand panel (default keyboard number 4) you can power down modules to reduce your fuel consumption waiting for rescue. Hopefully you won't run out of fuel again, but this is useful to know anyway. You can power down modules you don't need at the moment.
Thanks. (y)

This post is being saved. Thank you all. There's some good stuff here. (y)

Right now to being "dead:
I've responded to that already here:

I'm not a fuel rat, and haven't actually had a need for their services (although it has been close a few times). The Fuel Rat's website is just the first result when you look them up on google :p

I prefer KGB FOAM (see the order I listed the stars in my original post), but whatever works.

Also, to OP:

Don't worry about blowing up a few times. The starting Sidewinder is free for a reason (I actually recommend keeping it around even after you have bought bigger and shinier ships just in case you want to try something that's a bit crazy without breaking your bank balance) :D

I'll have a look at the alternative. Thanks.

I'll keep. (y)

So...if you were on the GA discord, we could've told you exactly what you needed to do, asap (as long as someone was paying attention). ;)
Yes ....... I understand. But it's been good for me to "stumble along the hard way". I don't want to be guided along, even if it is meant with best intent. I hopefully can call for help when needed (maybe scream!), but it generates discussion and hopefully a few laughs. ;)

Rebuy screen can be confusing - just take the default option, and you end up in the last station you docked at in a ship of the same load-out. No way to keep your cargo though, which will have been lost to the vacuum of space.

I would recommend you buy a Hauler from somewhere and look up 'Road to Riches' on Spansh (google is your friend) - this will give you a route for exploration that will turn in a few M credits - with the proceeds of that you can get an Asp Explorer and do some serious mining, and have a ship with enough loadout to have a scoop as well as limpets and refineries etc. That introduces you to two of the game styles - exploring and mining.

See https://coriolis.io/ for tinckering with loadouts of ships - very useful ( or you may prefer ed shipyard https://www.edshipyard.com/) - endless hours of fun window shopping :)
Good luck!

I find your adventures quite entertaining and I like helping you out with tips and tricks. It's also a good reminder for me how difficult starting out in this game actually is.

I can relate to your choice to "stumble along the hard way". I did the same when the game was released and I learned a lot from it (despite I wasn't new to Elite, I played all previous versions). I found out keyboard&mouse was not for me and dug out an old joystick, I smashed into a star and burned up, I pancaked on the back wall of a station after "finger trouble" and I lost big money on missions when I got ganked by a seal clubber (no cargo insurance). But after 2 weeks I felt like I was starting to "get the game" so I cleared my save and started again for real.
