I've got myself all excited about HR 1185

So on the Galnet date the 31 MAR 3303 there was information about the Empire establishing outposts in HR 1185. As an Aisling Duval supporter this story got my attention because (leaving the Federation/Empire Meta alloys fight to one side) HR 1185 is in the Pleiades star cluster which is where the Aliens where hyperdicting people and in fact, it was here that I was also hyperdicted when heading to Maia. [big grin]

I headed there a few nights ago, look around the system and scanned everything (it's even got a black hole, very cool place). I have made home on Ceres Tarn which is on the surface of HR 1185 A4. Nothing struck me as unusual and the mission boards seemed to be empty. Last night a capital ship appeared (Empire) above HR 1185 A4, so my imagination has run away with me, it feels like we are gearing up for something.

It's probably just a meta alloys fistycuffs but I can't help but notice how nestled we are in the Pleiades star cluster, could this turn into a Thargoid event on patch day? Are we close enough to the update that this could be a first big reveal? Just what is going on?

I'm sure nothing will happen but it's nice to think that it might and the presense of any capital ship is always awesome.






Note: Has anyone ever landed on Ceres Tarn? Everytime I try to land it's like my ship has a magnet I just slam to the ground no matter how gentle I am with my thrusters.

Ceres Tarn has a gravity of over 4G, doesn't it? I won't be landing there anytime soon ... besides I'm a Federation citizen. I probably wouldn't be made welcome.

As far as something happening soon ... last week's newsletter teased a big event happening on April 29th. Get ready! Anything could happen!

I landed there many times before the imperials got in.

One of the best system in the pleiade cluster IMO. The planets + lightening, especially A4 are amazing.

^^ but yeah, gravity is tough there. Got as far as doing dogfighting there, it's quite insane !

I might add that HR 1185 is the system where the first ever free floating UA was found in October 3301.

It was found near the black hole, bu an XBoxer called Boblit67.

Trick to landing on high g is to not use your down thrusters. Just toggle Flight Assist off and on again in short bursts.

Indeed. Though, that only really works for <= 3G. beyond that, gliding with a shallow angle is the best way to go about it.
Slightly tilting the ship in roll also works because the side thrusters are much weaker than the main upper thrusters,
it does the same thing as FAOFF, but in a much more gentle manner

FAOFF at 6+ g will most likely pancake the ship.

I'll have to try that at HD148937, I have successfully landed (crashed!) onto it using FAOFF feathering (it's 9.77 G's).

Well that explains that. I did assume it was gravity but initially I thought my controller was borked.

I'm going to remain here for a little while and perhaps head out around Pleiades for a while and do some exploring. I'm just hoping it's a staging area for an event, that would be nice

I just hope "it", whatever "it" may be, is not telegraphed everywhere and signposted so as to make it at least somewhat of a surprise and random before someone starts completing another spreadsheet of locations.
Would be great if my commander could be informed and kept up to date with all that is and has happened entirely through Galnet without needing any reference to forums threads and what effectively amount to spoilers.
