Yes get a Joystick and preferably with Throttle aswell. I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS and its great. Well made and very good for the price £34. Awesome. :)

Oh and welcome to ELITE Dangerous pilot! :)

Consider downloading Voice Attack as well if you play in a quiet area.. helps a lot to be able to just tell your ship what to do.
And get practice in on those single player missions.. they're pretty good :D

I had a Thrustmaster and it broke, but it was good for the price.

I now have CH fighterstick, throttle and pedals and couldn't be happier with them.

You wont necessarily *need* a HOTAS to play/be good at the game. I've been doing the tutorials with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and when I can finally get into the actual game, I'm gonna put my G13 to work.

I am way better at dogfighting with a joystick than I was using kb&m, but everyone else plays it differently.

I've a Saitek X55, it completely changes the experience. And even if somehow mouse/keyb would give me an edge, I wouldn't even consider playing with anything else than a stick of joy. Unless somebody steals it and I don't have money to buy another one...

X52 Pro. Can't go wrong with that, seems a LOT of elite players use them, especially the Oculus lot as it's almost identical to what's in your hands in-game.

Frontier Development even had a special deal selling them, so that's a seal of approval.

I have NOT regretted forking out for one as soon as I started playing Elite Dangerous.
