I've lost it

If you can afford it get a Krait MkII its an awesome ship for bounty hunting in res zones and can hold its own in combat zones. The Python would be another good choice, not quite as good as the Krait but still in my opinion the best all round ship in the game (and best mining ship with the changes).

I am having alot of fun in a fully engineered Krait MkII, frag cannons in every weapon slot. 4 pips to shield makes it very tough, one pip to engines is plenty fast enough and can boost without limit, one pip to weapons is plenty and you never have to move the pips around in combat. Kills anything except the bigger ships in 3 passes. Deadly anacondas last about 25 seconds against it.

Don't tell us how long Anacondas last, but your ammo reserves ;) Frags are beast weapons, fantastic for assassinations and such. But I find them to be hopeless in long BH sessions, since you will need to rearm every 5-10 minutes even if you don't miss a shot.

For a relatively cheap, but capable combat ship, I'd go with the Chieftain. I have one outfitted with all multicannons and it just shreds NPCs of any size or rank.

Engineering on any ship is a must, so if you can unlock them, your ship will perform better and better, regardless of which one you choose.

For learning stuff, stay with the small ships.

Here Vulture is the top dog, but there are several more very competent ships.

iCourier, requires ranking up in the Empire, but can be almost as strong as the Vulture.

Viper Mk3/4 both very competent, very cheap.

Diamondback Scout and Cobra should not be overlocked.

Basically, there is no best ship, and do not stare blind at the stats, it comes down to you and how you fly and what you enjoy. I think Vindicator Jones summed this up in this video. I can fly the same ship as my friends, and be rubbish, then i switches ship to another ship and now I can keep up, since this ship better suits how I fly. Even if my ship is on paper "weaker", I can compete. So what is the ship I should fly? the best ship according to the stats? or the ship I have most fun in?

Also, engineering have a huge difference on these ships, and even if you get to G3, that is already a very noticeably boost.... So use whatever engineers you have unlocked even if they only do stuff to lesser grades, it is still boost, and they will allow you to add experimental effects, and these are most of the time really useful.

OP buys ships then sells them becuase he doesn't like the feel of them. Why does everyone here think he won't just sell the ship they recommend after he's tried it out. Do you know the OPs style of play personally or something, lol.

I'd like to hear what the OP has to say, thank you.

Just wanted to add that the Eagle, Viper 3 and Imperial Courier also are excellent data couriers because of their speed. Nice supplement to your bounty hunter income

I'd say go for a chieftain:

https://s.orbis.zone/1b8u

60 million

Engineer up from here step by step
- Dirty drag drives
- Charge enhanced PD
- armoured PP
- fast charge reinforced bi weaves
- one resistance augmented and one thermal resist Booster
- rails long range and either plasma slug (add a fuel tank) or feedback cascade
- beams efficient
- multicannon high cap and corrosive
- armor & hrp heavy duty + deep plating

It will keep you alive, don't cost that much when you die, teach you to fire rails (you can add fixed beams instead of the gimbals to learn that, too),
and the chief fully engineered is a beast in both PvE and PvP (have to change stuff for PvP though).

Not so long ago I had almost similar problem - what to choose. For trial and error I used Viper, Vulture and Chieftain. I have FDL but I keep it for future, so not counting it here. Finally decided to go DBS. For me - perfect middle ground between small ones like Eagle, Viper, Vulture and bigger ones like FLD, Chieftain, Python. Unengineered as I don't have access to those it performed pretty well. Outfitting is cheap, rebuy is cheap, pretty agile and sturdy, good module selection. Very reasonable choice for starters.

Alliance Challenger with a fighter bay, or Krait MkII. They're the two that I have had most combat success with, the combination of pace, handling and hardpoints can handle most situations. I have found other combat ships give me too much compromise somewhere.

Thanks everyone for your sound advise. I've opted for the Alliance Challenger which is affordable and the re-buy cost is affordable also. Now to test it out and what weapons to use.

You're a bad person.

You mean Crusader, right? Challenger doesn't have a fighter bay.
