General I've mentioned it before but ship LY ometer thingy ma bob

Pretty much as the title suggest a LY distance traveled for the ship your in.

could sit in this panel; or on the ship information screen etc

and should contain ;

Ship Commissioned - May 3301 or whatever
Ly covered in ship - 10,321 LY or whatever

a little dial / meter on the HUD would be even better!

Whoah! One impossible dream at a time. :giggle:
Hmm.What benefit would it bring to the game?
I'm not meaning to disparage the idea, but it does sound like a lot of effort, with little return.
If it could be demonstrated that the player would benefit from the change/ proposed ammendment it would recieve a more favourable ear within
the wider community, imo.

it shows you how much you've used the ship and brings the same benefits as the other stats, such as; number of jumps or total hyperspace distance, there are many communities which thrive on this information, others just use it for braggin rights, either way its a nice stat to have, even better if its visual on the ship hud to show how far its been.

The other stats are CMDR based stats, light years jumped, total hyperspace distance. I can't see any direct benefit from it, there are other programs that keep some of this data, for instance EDDiscovery has a statistics tab that shows this data for all ships I own or have owned, so it is stored in the journals, for instance for my two Kraits it has this data stored;

Krait Mk II (krait_mkii:21)The Long Way HomeVAR002173468,4805356803
Krait Phantom (krait_light:24)The Long Way HomeVAR001227511,324,46127959874603

Whether I would be interested in seeing this in game is questionable, I see no reason really.

not all of us are on PC, therefore rely on the information in game, and a 3rd party tool shows the benefits already where a lot of stats it captures have crept into the game since 2015, unfortunately console players don't have access to some of those interesting stats.

I mean, you don't have to look at it if your not interested, but its no reason to kill the idea.

imo distance traveled in a carrier isn't applicable to a ships "odometer", much like when you stick your car on a transporter etc, no reason the FC cant have a statistic too, or a "odometer" if and when it gets a cockpit

Just thought I would add here, the carrier has its very own stats panel in the codex with jumps, distance and many other details, so that exists already, whether there should be data on ships that really are pretty ephemeral as far as things go, not a big fan.

I have flown the Dolphin since 2.3, only asking for a stat to be visible, and people like you come along.

then we wonder why the suggestions board is a diseased festering pile of crap where no-one dare suggest anything and frontier don't bother reading it?

I think pencil and paper is probably your best bet. Consol stats are the LCD across all platforms.
@varonica:Thanks for the info on carriers. Murky waters as far as i am concerned, but it's still early days.

Already told you how to get your stats for a ship, and this is a discussion forum, there are rules, trying to discourage people from posting by attacking them is against the rules, I suggest you read them.

Oh yes, exactly what are "people like me." You mean people who don't agree with you? You will meet a lot of those in life!

Nah. If each ship 'mileage' is is recorded the Devs will figure out the more mileage the less value it will have when we trade it in.
