I've never used ECM... Am I reading this right?

ECM usually describes a jamming-type countermeasyre, but in ED it triggers like an electromagnetic pulse. Any seeking weapons within the ECM's radius will be scrambled. Last time I tested it, the cooldown is a global cooldown - if you have 2 ECMs equipped, you can't use them back-to-back; the second one will have no effect because it will be neutered by the cooldown from the first one.

Noted, thank you.

The cooldown is a bit long, so you'll need a few ECMs to properly counter more trigger-happy missile users. Works best at longer ranges, too, where you have more time to react, and can potentially catch more missiles in each blast. Note that ECM will not provide any protection against dumbfires or mines- it only messes with guidance systems. That means seekers, pack hounds, torpedos, and hatch breakers.

I may have given up on them too soon, but in all my attempts to impliment them I found the reaction time/missile closing speed/distance of engagements was all too quick for the ECM to be effective unless it was all I had to do....maybe a co-pilot dedicated to countermeasures would work.

It would be really cool if it could, for example, reboot an enemy ship within the radius.

I use it on some ships, but when comes to defending against missiles, it's kind of "1 out of 3" situation. Much like the PDTs, but they are at least automatic, while ECM needs pilot's attention.

A proper electronic warfare suite with jammers, module disrupters, and hacking would be beautiful.

The longer you hold down the key, the greater the range. That's the theory. In practice, I release it after about a second and hope for the best :D

If you look at the scanner, the missiles still turn from white to blue once they're encompassed by the current radius.

Noted.

As some might have guessed from my other thread about laser weapons, this is part of the retro build I'm making.
