Well, Brett is just the forums guy and not an actual dev. He's spoken for them before, but his posts on real dev stuff would be 3rd hand. Kind of like if you overhear a worker in another department talking about replacing a light bulb somewhere and you tell someone who has an unrelated lighting problem that they're working on it.
So we can assume that the devs aware of it, but we don't know.
