Jaques story made pointless by 2.2?

Hahahahahaha....good one. I needed a laugh today. Don't forget the $500.00 JPEG sales going on.
Be sure to let us know, in a couple years, how it all works out.

I said yesterday to a mate, Chris Roberts could take a crap in a box and there are SC players (sorry, future players...) who would bid ten grand for it and tell themselves they got a bargain.

Yeah, we like the sound of utter silence, and 900 people online worldwide to watch the ED livestream.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Every time I've ever watched an SC presentation, and it doesn't matter what is being presented, the crowd is going nuts. Reminds me of that movie Happy Gilmore.

Reminded me of a Trump Rally, lol. Was waiting for them to pass out the koolaid.

But yeah, some of the SC stuff was pretty cool, but not that cool. Was kind of hilarious how the guy passed in through the airlock in his helmet AFTER passing 3 guys chatting in normal civilian clothes (no helmets, just talking and laughing)! I was like wait.. what? Pre-alpha. Still was very cool when the ship pulled out side the station and went glass to glass with the crew member waving from inside the lobby. Gotta wonder how they handle seamless transitions and open environments of that size? Quite a technical feat.

Indeed that moment was awesome. I'd love to be at some spaceport bar chatting with other players and mission givers or shopping at stores and suddenly see my mates ship landing so I could then join them in the pad. Sure as hell beats "teleport across the galaxy into your friend's ship for multicrew".

To be honest, I would like SC to materialize into a real game with all those promised features and gameplay very, very much.

Also being honest, I believe the released game will have all those features and gameplay very, very little. All we've seen so far is very tiny, very controlled fragments of gameplay.

Would be happy to be surprised though.

It was not a jab at SC , I support SC.
I backed it and I am a centuarion.

However , I still prefere elite dangerous.
But when both games , thats when it matters.

Remeber elite in beta? and how much better and immersive it was?

What SC 3.0 did was intresting , but its tiny compared to what they want to do in the final builds.

I dont mind cheering but they cheer for everything , its a pain when you are trying to watch a livestream and someone is shouting over the game because he saw a nice shade of blue they liked

There should be a maximum distance. Epic journeys shouldn't be replaced with teleports.
There should be a time delay unless the distance is short. Cost doesn't do it. If the cost is moderate then it will quickly become irrelevant.
If the cost is enormous then it isn't a change that would help many people. Until after suitable amount of rage, the cost is slashed leaving us with essentially free teleportation.

While I appreciate the concerns of explorers and early colonizers on this feature, but aren't we talking about a fleeting moment here? Jaques already has a shipyard. What do you want? Very slow growth, based on limited ships you brought yourself? Or development of the area at a reasonable pace, with 1, 2, 10 more populated systems?

Do you want to keep it exclusive to a small group, and have your private area of space, or do you want to grow and develop it, and over the course of a year, or two, grow indeed into bubble 2, even if only about a 100 systems?

You want the 2nd, I am pretty certain you'll need something like ship transfer.

And personally, I think it encourages ship specialization even more. I can Asp it somewhere in a reasonable amount of time, then have the mining or mission python or FdL brought over for the local work that doesn't require long distance travel.

And once you have the first shipyard in bubble 2 that is decently stocked, the effect would be exactly the same.

I welcome this feature. I first too thought a small wait made sense, but you'd basically be telling people, "go do something else for a while, while you wait for the ship to arrive". There should never be something in the game that says "stop playing me".

Even better: it negates even more the reason why I would work the Engineers. 11 LY range in an FdL is brutal even in the bubble. If I can Asp it quick, then call my ship, and get into combat, bounty hunting, trade, mining, etc. straight away, I think that's great. Saves me to have to make a trip and buy the equivalent over there, or decide to not make the trip at all.

I don't get the crowd who say it screws up the immersion.
I enjoy the Python for getting around the bubble and that won't change come 2.2.
The min/maxers will exploit the system and rest will use it as they please.

You really think money still plays a role for many people in ED two years after release? No, money isn't valuable enough anymore to make it an appropriate price for ship delivery, just a realistic time duration would be a fitting cost for such a service, and would be of equal value for every player, no matter how rich they are.

I agree with the OP! While ship transport is a great quality of life improvement many of us have been waiting for for a long time, making it instantaneous sacrifices too much of what makes this a great game in the first place, just to squeeze
even more convenience out of the concept, up to the point where fitting out all your ships with good FSDs becomes pointless.

Still plays a role for me. I don't even own an Anaconda yet.

It removes amazing moments such as :
Doing lots of missions and keep getting far away from your ''home'' its then you remember ''space is very , very big... its going to take a long time to get back''

Thats gone , yes its small , yes some hate it...
But that feeling is unique , and with the fact I can just pop back up there with my taxiasp... no system is out of reach...

I have an idea !
What about ship transfer that only works if the ship you want to transfer is in that shipyard? that sounds fair to me

i think the storyline will change and become a bit more mundane and more likle bubble mk 1 after a while, but that is the way the storyline would go anyway, it still has potential

Thats normal , thats the outcome.

But one of the coolest things about jaques was that players would be there with ships not matching the tasks they needed at hand

OP Privata raises very good points.
some others also raise valid points, which - assuming FD take note - gives them some wiggle room on the actual eventual implementation.

If the "agenda" that's bing "pushed" is to make (and keep) ED the best game it can be (which IMHO is totally awesome!) then please push away! PUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSHHHHHHHH!

Maybe not everyone wants to read a 60 page thread. Maybe focussing on one aspect of this proposed change - like how it will affect the Jaques storyline - might help to show up some of the problems with it, and even suggest some ideas for possible solutions.

Pardon the pun, but this is a labour of love... so PUSH!
