JATT - Just Another Thargoid Thread

So you all want Thargoid in the game, do you? You must, as every mention of them is met with fanboi squeals combining girlish delight and anticipation. Players want them in the game now for various reasons. Everyone seems to think they'll be a silver bullet solution that'll inject flair, depth and excitement in Elite.

In hiding for years, the vast majority of players want the aliens to reemerge. Those people are wrong and I'm going to tell you why.

Simply put, you're not ready as a community for Thargoid. Of the current threads, one in three is railing against the tougher AI in game. The Thargoid are reputedly a lot tougher than the AI.

To use a martial arts analogy, you are currently a yellow belt and the green belt AI just kicked your teeth across the mat. You moan and complain loudly to your sensai that your opponent is too tough, then in the next breath ask to step up to the black belt Thargoid because you think it will be "exciting." You are plainly delusional.

You are not ready for Thargoid. With the new AI, you should be reassessing your play style, your loadouts, your tactics and/or ship choices. You should be experimenting with new tactics and defensive modules regardless of your occupation or play style. I'm not one of the "git gud" promoters, but I do tell you that you need to get better than you are today. I'm garbage in combat compared to most, but I learn from my mistakes and the enhanced AI isn't as bad as the vocal minority claims. I play two hours every night and have died once since 2.1 released. If you don't want to fight, then learn to run effectively. Thargoid will be in Open, PG and Solo. Mobius won't save you.

You are not ready for Thargoid. You can't handle the current enhanced AI and yet you want tougher enemies. You want to run and haven't even learned to stand up yet. At this moment, you are the Romans at the Battle of Arausio, the Carthaginians in the Battle of Zama, the Australians walking into Gallipoli. You think you'll have a chance; you won't.

You are not ready for Thargoid. You imagine you'll hide behind the talented pilots, snipe from the sidelines and take out the weakened enemy. The problem is the good pilots are few in number and very much like Leonidas and his lads at Thermopylae, they won't last long, nor can they be everywhere. Then what are you going to do?

You're not ready for Thargoid. You're not preparing properly for Thargoid. You have not earned the Thargoid.

Rise to the challenge, or not. It's on you either way.

PS - DB confirmed in a 2.1 Q+A that we'd be getting multiple alien races. Consider the Thargoid may be the tame ones of the bunch.

What I've always planned to do. Disappear. The galaxy is a big place.

Mmmmm not sure about that lol out in the black all alone only to be confronted by a wing of 5 Thargoid battle ships.

I think i will stay tucked up in the bubble if they ever arrive

Repped because that just how I feel about things.

Bill

<<off practising his favourite battle manouver

"Brave Sir Bill ran away
Bravely ran away away
When thargoids raised their ugly heads
He bravely turned tail and fled" :D

Hah!

Well said! AI is nearly semi realistic now. You have a ship. Use it, and learn it.
And remember, if you are getting hammered, go exploring for a while. A decent Cobra can get you a long way. Head underneath to the neutron stars and scan like hell. When you come back, you will have enough money to have great fun!

Tried repping shaddie, but HNGnnnnnnnn... Mind rep.

KOOL I never liked a game where I always win. Maybe the community might actually pull together. Maybe drag my sry ass out of solo to saddle up. :)

More like another GitGud Topic ignoring that not everyone is interested in Combat aspects of the Game.

I just want Frigates and Destroyes as well as some more Weapon Choices.
For example Particle Cannons, Positron Beams or AntiMatter Torpedoes.
Would not mind some differejt Colors of Lasers as well.
Red Short Range Lasers
Green Long Range Lasers
Blue Shield Bypassing Lasers :p

Thargoids can go scratch their Balls. Dont need em.

I started a thread just like this, few days back. Didn't go well.

What I'd personally liked from Thargoids, once they're here, that they would go undefeated for weeks, maybe months. then player or a wing who would first defeat a Thargoid squadron would be a real legend.

I was thinking earlier that the Lore adjustment regarding the Mucoid virus and the Alliance probably means that the Thargoids are more likely to be Deadoids.

If we find them at all it will be space archaeology and salvage missions. Rather than CZ's and invasion fleets

This thought makes me sad.

The current AI has been stealth neutered. That people don't realize the NPC aggression and aim has been gutted since 2.1.01, means the OP is quite correct.

If Thargoids are a foregone conclusion... then we are in for a world of hurt.

See, back in the day, when Thargoids showed up, it was never a happy fun time.
It was Oh OH.

People complain about the current AI now? Think of ships and AI that outclass everything we have seen thus far. I believe that FDev made the AI tough as a form of BASIC TRAINING for when Winter Comes.

anyone else thinking of the intro to Freespace? ;)

I must stress that as a mediocre combat pilot I am not wanting harder enemy to face. FD should script in a really clever way the thargoids in. Have specific VERY hard missions so those who think they are good enough can encounter the uber aliens.

Unleashing the Thargoids on the player base en masse and randomly will make the current complaints look like a polite tea party.

Thargoids Pffftttt.... Two words, "Biological Warfare". They'll shrivel up like salted slugs.

No need for your fancy dancy combat skills, that's so last century.

Depends on if the Thargoids will be found everywhere, like NPCs in the game at present, or if they are more commonly encountered in select areas. This gives people the option of avoiding them if they don't want to duke it out.

If we're assuming they will be of a similar toughness level as in the original games, in terms of relative difficulty compared to anything the AI offers at the moment Thargoids would be like fighting four fully engineer-upgraded FDLs which had been welded together into a stupendous galactic bulldozer of fire and pain.

Bring it. Maybe I will finally be able to get my Thargoid skin seat covers for my Vulture. :D

Or the epic beginning to Privateer...

AI is good, It's attacking too often ( 100cr bounty 100Ly away? Let's send 10 elite condas to hunt him! ) but it's good...
Some people grinded their way to biggest ships in robigo or using other exploits. Thargoids would literally destroy them and push them back to sidewinders while players who actually played game like it's supposed to be played will survive.
People would complain for sure but they will learn over time how to defend theirselfes + There are many friendly players who will help them in it.
