So you all want Thargoid in the game, do you? You must, as every mention of them is met with fanboi squeals combining girlish delight and anticipation. Players want them in the game now for various reasons. Everyone seems to think they'll be a silver bullet solution that'll inject flair, depth and excitement in Elite.
In hiding for years, the vast majority of players want the aliens to reemerge. Those people are wrong and I'm going to tell you why.
Simply put, you're not ready as a community for Thargoid. Of the current threads, one in three is railing against the tougher AI in game. The Thargoid are reputedly a lot tougher than the AI.
To use a martial arts analogy, you are currently a yellow belt and the green belt AI just kicked your teeth across the mat. You moan and complain loudly to your sensai that your opponent is too tough, then in the next breath ask to step up to the black belt Thargoid because you think it will be "exciting." You are plainly delusional.
You are not ready for Thargoid. With the new AI, you should be reassessing your play style, your loadouts, your tactics and/or ship choices. You should be experimenting with new tactics and defensive modules regardless of your occupation or play style. I'm not one of the "git gud" promoters, but I do tell you that you need to get better than you are today. I'm garbage in combat compared to most, but I learn from my mistakes and the enhanced AI isn't as bad as the vocal minority claims. I play two hours every night and have died once since 2.1 released. If you don't want to fight, then learn to run effectively. Thargoid will be in Open, PG and Solo. Mobius won't save you.
You are not ready for Thargoid. You can't handle the current enhanced AI and yet you want tougher enemies. You want to run and haven't even learned to stand up yet. At this moment, you are the Romans at the Battle of Arausio, the Carthaginians in the Battle of Zama, the Australians walking into Gallipoli. You think you'll have a chance; you won't.
You are not ready for Thargoid. You imagine you'll hide behind the talented pilots, snipe from the sidelines and take out the weakened enemy. The problem is the good pilots are few in number and very much like Leonidas and his lads at Thermopylae, they won't last long, nor can they be everywhere. Then what are you going to do?
You're not ready for Thargoid. You're not preparing properly for Thargoid. You have not earned the Thargoid.
Rise to the challenge, or not. It's on you either way.
PS - DB confirmed in a 2.1 Q+A that we'd be getting multiple alien races. Consider the Thargoid may be the tame ones of the bunch.
