Jaw dropping view

Yesterday I was in a system at a ringed planet. The planet was cobalt blue (mostly) with an extremely "dusty" ring of dense, grey asteroids, I dropped into a REP (resource extraction point) to bounty hunt.

As soon as I dropped into it so did my jaw. The view was breath taking. I play exclusively in a DK2 so no screen shots but, it was just amazingly beautiful. The massive bright blue planet almost entirely filled the screen and the dusty asteroids contrasted the planet with awesome effect.

I've been playing since May and I'm amazed that I still find moments of pure artistic ecstasy above and beyond the "normal" overload of visual delights. It was (another) moment of pure PC gaming gold to add to my growing treasure chest of Elite: Dangerous goodness.

I love this game.

It is pretty remarkable the stunning views this game can generate. Also, because of the way they model the galaxy, everything feels seamless and the sense of scale is wonderful. When supercruising around a system at faster than light speeds, objects feel very small with vast distances between them as it should. It rightly does away with the typical depiction of solar systems with all the planets bunched up together. And yet, when flying close up to a big gas giant makes you feel very small. I can hardly imaging what it is going to be like when we are able to actually land on planets. I have no idea how they plan on implementing that, but I hope they can make it as seamless as possible like No Man's Sky is attempting to do. Being able to approach a planet from small dot to entering the atmosphere and then landing has been a space sim dream of mine for a long time. I don't even think Star Citizen will be doing it that way and will probably have some kind of cutscene to transition. I'm crossing my fingers for ED.

Today I had the same experience. I found a ringed Y-dwarf star. The dark purple glow and the shadows of the asteroids was breathtaking.

Sometimes I hang out in a scenic spot and just watch the system traffic.

I flood my facebook friends daily with beautiful Elite screenshots. Now, only if I could include my ship in them! ;)

Or, even just a UI and Cockpit free screenshot mode would be nice.

Yep get this totally..

Just sometimes you just have to stop and look because it is sooo beautifull.

I once pulled up to a platform next to an Earth like planet, it was on the sunny side.. Just this lovely azure blue sea and the clouds and the station,, it is art,, love it

I am a total nub though because I just realised I don't take screenshots...

How do I do that and where do the pics end up anyone ? :S

F10 to take (or alt + F10 for hi res in solo mode). Pics end up in your pictures folder in a frontier (or elite dangerous) sub folder.

Easily done. There is so much to learn

F10 takes a screenshot and Alt + F10 takes a HiRes screnshot (I think).

The BMP images can be foundt in:

C:\Users\%username%\Pictures\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous

Get the Imperial Clipper. It has big windows :)
Completely UI and cockpit-free screenshots. Some of mine: http://imgur.com/a/XWq6F
I'd go exploring with it if it had bigger fuel tank and longer jump range.
