Nice idea but uh, this isn't star trek and our ships don't run on antimatter. Fusion reactors don't explode when they're damaged, catastrophic failure just makes them stop working. That our ships explode at all seems to be a result of scuttling ordnance packages lining the hull, since we get the same result if the ship is self-destructed, life support runs out, the hull is compromised beyond space-worthiness or the reactor is destroyed.
Weeeeeeeeeell, that's partially true. Fusion Reactors, if the fuel source is prevented from feeding the reaction chamber, shut off like a light bulb, however if the reactor vessel or even just the magnetic containment field is ruptured but the fuel source is still working, then yes a fusion reactor CAN explode.
But the explosions of our ships is probably largely do to combustion of plasma from the power system or even the FSD drive itself exploding which likely contains some built up charge.
The reason it can't be ordanance because as an explorer, our ships dont even have weapons, so it has to be some other system or even the conduits connecting them going up in flames.
I will say this when you run out of life support, it should fade to black and go silent instead of exploding.
when in heavy combat and as a last resort and when carrying more than one power plant, option to jetison and turn into an unstable reactor with explosive damage to set distance.
Type 10 will carry 4 for instance.
just an idea.
I counter the idea with a resounding "no".
You folk complained to them about missiles being over powered and demanded that they get nerfed.
If you want that effectiveness, complain about un-nerfing missiles back to their original numbers.
