Jettison External Modules

A simple idea, mostly for explorers.

Grant us the ability to Jetison, or detach external modules, such as weapons and utility modules.

Simple reason being, you may have used up your heat sinks, so carrying an empty module for 50,000ly is a waste of mass. Lol
Also, you may feel you need weapons to defend yourself on the way out of the bubble, but once you reach so far, you can drop them, for a jump range increase instead.

Obviously it needs sanity checks.
And you must not mind if you're dumping a few thousand/million credits in weapons in to space.
And I can't think of any other reason you'd want to ditch weapons or modules. Lol

Unless we're given the ability to carry modules, they should probably self destruct once a few 100m from the ship, and/or will obviously just vanish if you leave the instance.

I like this idea simply because there may be a time when I have a module that is too damaged for me to use and it's fairly cheap and I am too busy to go get it repaired so I dump it so I not only increase my jump range but gain the power plant capacity that it was using.

It seems CMDR_Cosmicspacehead forgot about Aliens. If we jettison our weapons and they add them. We are mess up.

Also why not sell our weapons before you leave port and save the trouble or jettison while exploration.
 
There wasn't a good reason for this the last time it was suggested, there's still not a good reason for this. Part of the decision making process is deciding how necessary that heat sink is. The CMDR must live with the consequence of their decision Being able to toss the module out on a whim undermines this, and erodes the game.
 
I like this idea, also it might be nice to have a small chance that external modules get sliced off, turrets stick out quite far, a very lucky shot might blast one off!
