Jim Croft, I want to tell you ...

I agree - some stunning audio throughout the game. Please tell me the hatch entry noise in the Coriolis has been readded in 4.1

Still downloading (2 hrs now)

Yeah just wanna throw my appreciation in for the awesome sound work.

It really adds a huge dimension to the game :)

I haven't heard much of 4.x most vids sound off and people babbling. I can't wait for 30th. BTW what will be final sound quality settings and formats?

In the same way that the sound design of Ben Burtt made Star Wars what it is, Jim Croft and his team are making ED what it is. Which is, in my most humble opinion, a game that will take the world by storm - certainly on the evidence of α4 screenshots and videos. Everything sounds - somehow - as it's supposed to. The sizzle of lazers licking dura-hull, the crack-crack-crack of multicannons, the sound of your engines, the ominous charging of the hyperdrive, the exotically-high-energy-elastic-band WHIP as you drop out of hyperspace and normal space-time snaps back into place around you... just incredible stuff! Cap duly doffed gentlebods!

It's not just the sounds that making the game great, but they do add a ton of character. I don't think it would be possible for the team to do a better job than they are already.

It's 48,000hz. Not sure of the format though, as Frontier seem to have a custom wrapper/archive format for data files, so it just shows up as .ovl.

Couldn't agree more. Amazing sound effects.

But Jim, could I ask for one little thing please? Could you turn up the volume on the effect used when you lower the landing gear please! Ta! ;)

Probably CD quality (48kHz, 16bit). Anything higher would be overkill, unless you plan to hook your PC up to a £4000 home cinema system! :p

If there will be a choice in the menus as to sound quality, a good 320bit mp3 would probably be the medium option.

We'll I need to upgrade my audio next. Was thinking new SB and a Yamaha Rx-v 7.1 amp. Is 7.1 supported or 5.1? Titianfall audio clocks in at 35GB uncompressed PCM. So I'm curious. ED SOUNDS AMAZING but I've only sampled it. Will it be decompressed using CPU and thus adding to system requirements or will it be uncompressed but require more storage. Perhaps custom installs will allow both. Still I need more info on the audio if anyone could shed some insight.

Personally I will give as much space as Jim and FD allow for uncompressed audio. All my dl are belong to ED :D

I couldnt agree more, the sound in this game is first rate!

I particularly love the sounds you hear whilst super cruising, it sounds like a distant sea, evoking the feeling of riding on the waves of space.
