I don't think politicians are paid too much myself. We trust them to run the country and frankly if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

I think they actually should be paid more .. a lot more...BUT none of this second job rubbish ala George "I bring value" Osborne. That does wind me right up.

I completely agree. £74k isn't that much. It's only the same as what doctors get paid, or sales people, or dentists, vets, etc etc... I work with software devs who earn more than that and they don't run the country. What's really wrong with politician's pay is how much they're able to make from other sources. Let's pay them well and have them actually represent us instead of lobbying organisations who are also willing to pay them.. Why lobbying and second jobs is somehow considered even vaguely acceptable is completely beyond me..

Jobs I think pay to much... Well that would be any job that pays more than mine!

Won't be a problem soon though, only 3 weeks until I retire! I always wanted to retire before I hit 50 and I'm pleased to say through hard work (honest!) I can now achieve my goal. :)

that is awesome... 52 has been my number, but I may have to extend that a bit :)

So you will have more time to moan then?

Apparently I have one of the highest paying jobs in the UK (4th according to the Guardian). Still can't afford to move out of my rental house.

Do you live in the south? You should move north, Manchester is a cool place to live and they have both jobs and housing that it's possible to buy..

London Underground Tube Drivers.

They get paid atleast 4 times what i get to "drive" a tube train.
Seriously, i looked in to it.
It's basically just a throttle, brakes and door control. Lol

I drive a van for Tesco. And i have to do a hell of alot more than that, while putting up with worse conditions.

Maybe it's time us drivers went on strike so i can earn 2-3 times the average wage for an unskilled job. Lol

Nope; You will be replaced by agency drivers within 24 hours.

I do, yes, and the house prices are crazy. I'm looking at possibly moving to Scotland, but that really depends on where the independence referendum goes. The company I work for has opportunities to work in most of Europe (including Manchester) but I need to consider how it will affect schools, my opportunity for part time, whether both my wife and I can move there (we do the same job) and how easily and cheaply we can travel back to the south where our extended families live. I think we will end up moving to Sterling or somewhere like that, or sticking with somewhere that is a little less expensive but still within an hour or so of where I currently work. We will see. The silly thing is I get paid the same wherever I work, so if I do move to Scotland, with the price of living I'll effectively be doubling my salary. That said if the independence referendum goes through my company may end up downsizing or leaving Scotland altogether, so I'm waiting to see what occurs with that.

Ah yes, decisions, decisions, although it's not just Scotland's future that's uncertain at the moment. The company I work for was recently purchased by an American firm and one of the directors recently admitted the sale may not have gone ahead if Brexit had been fully understood at the time of the sale.

I moved north from the south 10 years ago, but my family already lived up here. I definitely understand the desire to be near family. Especially if you have kids. Still, house prices in the south are so crazy now.

Yes, Brexit hit us hard too. The share price for my company dropped by 50%. I lost thousands and thousands. I was not a happy bonalste!
