Perhaps BritBox will now make available "Smiley's People" ( Guinness' Tinker, tailor is already on there) - they wasted no time in sticking all the Babs WIndsor "chest"-in-a-Carry-On-film titles up when she carked it.

Very sad news. One of the best. Not only as a writer but also a really good and genuine person with sane opinions about society and life in general.
I will miss him but continue reading his works.
The opening sequence in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (series 1979) remains one of the best, imho, 'chamber pieces' with some of the cream of British actors.

I got both series on DVD years ago, proper quality BBC production.
Very menacing turn by Patrick Stewart as well, even if brief.
Needless to say I am a huge fan. Excellent writing from an intelligent man. His son writes as Nick Harkaway, his Tigerman book is extraordinary.
Patrick Stewart was superb as Carla. The radio 4 dramatisation of the Smiley series was excellent too.
