Roller Coasters Journey through 'The Deuce Ring'

Hi all

This is a work in progress dark ride (in real life it would use VR). It's loosely based upon Stargate but since I can't recreate authentic looking props I have branded this the 'Deuce Ring'.

So far in the video below you can see the approach to the ring, and then the instantaneous passage through the ring into the void beyond - before arriving just as instantly into what will be ancient Egypt.

If anyone has any suggestions for improving the void part of the ride it would be good to hear them! I feel it's still missing something to make it more atmospheric.

Turn volume up before watching.

Thanks dude! It's got a long way to go with theming and detail though. It's a big project [shocked]

Kinda fighting the game to make it do things it doesn't want to!

This is the first element from the Ancient Egypt (under attack from aliens) section

Your youtube videos are amazing!! +1 sub :) I still don't understand the elevator lol

Thanks! Only just started the channel so you're my second sub lol!

I'll stick the elevator scene in this thread too as it was originally intended to be part of the Deuce Ring ride, but frankly it led to even more jokes about 'going down' to find the ring... And also, I couldn't have the aliens shown until later on in the ride. Keep thinking about how it works though, I always include a tiny flaw or give away that reveals the trick, just to prove the videos aren't edited... ;)

Wow, so many neat tricks already! I look forward to seeing it on Workshop so I can steal ideas draw inspiration from it all.

Anyway, as to your question, the Void by definition lacks an atmosphere :D But what you've got there already is quite good. The only thing I can suggest would be to use some of those long, thin laser beam lights. Mount 1 or more rings of them around the track and have them aimed mostly back towards the oncoming coaster, but angled slightly outward. Then have them triggered to flicker so it looks like the ring of light beams is rotating around the coaster. Also maybe add some random banking back and forth to that section of track. Maybe a full roll but not necessarily.

That's a great idea with the lasers - and I already tried it lol. The problem is that if the lasers are too close they illuminate the track. If they're too far away you can see the SFX unit bases as a silhouette against the lighter parts (which are in fact 2 layers of water). I do intend to smooth out and also make the banking a bit more random for the final version though.

It's a shame we can't paint the basic shape pieces in colours that have the neon sign effect. The signs glow in the dark but don't actually emit any light, they would have been perfect if I could do that.

OK, what if you did it the other way around, with the lasers mount on the back side of the ring's wall. That way, the SFX units would be behind the coaster so you'd never see them. The lasers would then shoot in the same direction the coaster is moving, converging in the far distance.

Are there any triggered items that you can place around the track to make it look like it's enclosed in a wormhole similarly to the various "Stargate" wormhole transitions between scenes? You don't need an "atmosphere", but something that simulates the wormhole itself would be awesome! :)

If only that could work. Sadly the laser beam defies reality by only travelling 4m. If I hid the base in the ring, it wouldn't even extend far enough to be visible during the ride.

If there are, I can't find the way. And I've tried everything I can think of. It's the sfx bases that are always in the way. I can hide the Base by lowering them but then I can form a wormhole. That's why I used terrain and water to create a section that looks entirely detached from 'normal planet coaster'.

I thought there were some that went on indefinitely. They're not special effects cans, they're other parts like for spacecraft and SF scenery.

I'll go and check again... :)

Checked... The only lasers extend to about 10m. I'll try some other stuff today.

Hmm still trying to figure it out. XD

Edit: Nevermind I found ^^

It's the same portal except the scenery around is a bit different. But the first picture is just after activation and the second is fully activated.
