Community Event / Creation Journey to the center of the galaxy

I am making a new thread for updates on my journey to the center of the galaxy.

1st update:

I just started this long journey. I jumped about 300 LY years from my home system of Youming, refueling at specific check points I made for myself. Everything was looking good...

Until...

I got 20 red dwarfs in a row, un-scoopable stars... I only had 1 jump left of fuel... I got lucky. The computer said "Main fuel tank drained" as I flew into a bright white star.

Time to keep going.

2nd update: Binary star system!

Good luck with that.
Really hope to see some new stuff.
Don't forget more videos and screenshots.

You didn't notice that you can see the types of stars in a system before you jump there?
On the Info tab of the galaxy map it will list ALL star types in that system, even unexplored systems.

Class T you definitely can't refuel from, not sure about others.
I thought red dwarfs worked just fine unless different scoops work with more stars than others?

Update 3:

1,000 LY Milestone!

Have fun! Congrats on the 1000 ly mark! I got as far as ~300ly. Then turned around. LOL.

If you can, try to make note of roughly when/where systems containing stations end. I'm wondering how expansive populated space is.

If you run into some aggressive aliens... be sure to report! You may encourage an armada of players to follow you and invade alien space. Assuming such a thing even exists in the game (yet?).

+1 Great stuff! :)

Don't take a direct route though, there are a load of great locations to visit on the way if you have time to go off the beaten track. A direct route misses most of it out unfortunately.

A rough idea of the path I took...

The Greae Phio Stellar Forge and the Eor Auscs Supernova Remnant (its 1,200 LYs above the galactic plane!) are both must sees along the way.

Excellent thread, we need some more new topic items and less of the usual pure moans and complaints posts (not that all of these aren't justified) - we need to reinvigorate this forum.

I made it to NGC 6357 in the gamma before being forced to turn back due to damage. had a repair unit but it ran dry thanks to crazy AI's interdicting me into the sun when I was scooping.

Good luck.

It could be Pallaeni as its pretty much the last outpost on the fringe of the frontier on the galactic core side of civilized space. Its the one I set off from and I never noticed another after that.

+1

There should be an explorers sub forum to keep all the interesting stuff separate from the chatter and whine posts in general discussion ;)

Looks good!

I have been thinking of making a big trip myself, starting with The Coalsack. Is it worth visiting, or should I try another early location?

-- Pete.

The Coalsack isn't that impressive to be honest as it doesn't reflect light so all you see is inky blackness when on its fringe. Although there is a black hole system in one of the HIP systems around there that earned me 98,000 credits.

The Lagoon Nebula is were the good stuff starts. If you want a taster of what each location is like I have a video blog of my trip on youtube "Elite Dangerous - Distant Suns".

@Airpainfood, if you can, you should video your journey or get plenty of screenshots. I think there will be competitions held by Frontier for finding beauty spots somewhere down the line (think it was mentioned in the kickstarter campaign). You'll see some amazing stuff! :)

I will start recording 1 - 2 hour long videos of my journey and put them on Youtube :)

I want to make the same trip to the other side of the galaxy, but it's tricky with only one save as I'd like to play around in an area too and run some trading and so forth with a hauler.

I hate leaving stuff behind, even though my list of owned items in systems in EvE runs into the thousands *coughs*

My friends come any try out ED at the moment and it's great to be able to set them up with a sidey and a hauler to try out the game. If I was galaxy hopping, like I want to, I wouldn't be bothering to make money that often so coming up with the creds for the 'spare ships' in each area when someone said "Can I have a go?" would be a pain.

Go for it, and hopefully I'll be able to set off on my long journey soon, once everyone has tried my copy of the game over the holidays and I'm finally left alone to just play it :p

Note: This is my very first Youtube video... be easy on me.

I've found a few major issues at the center of the galaxy that players need to be aware of. It seems there are some broken sectors of space that can disconnect you and prevent you from logging in. Game support are aware of it and told me that progress on fixing it is slow going at the moment. So be careful when you get to the core regions as I ended up being stuck in broken systems and couldn't log-in for 3 days. Eventually Frontier Developments moved my character out of the galactic core systems as it was becoming too buggy to stay there.

Here's my post in general discussion about it: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=85123&highlight=

It may be wiser to slow your progress down a little. Or wait until some patches have been released that have fixed those areas of the map before you get there.
