Journey to The Magnetar

Yet another "look at my voyage" thread if you are not bored enough, now with an interesting target.

When I first opened the full star map, I started to search for a Magnetar - a type of neutron star with a megnetic field so strong, it could rip the iron out of your blood from many thousands of kilometers. The other special thing about them, that we only identified very few, 28 as of today, the list is below:

Well, I have found, only ONE in Elite :) For more on hunting down this beast, please visit the website I've created, something like a log of ship. I already finished my journey to the star, and yep, it's there :) I only had no sufficient time to keep the journey updated throughout the travel. Now as I am coming back to colonized space, I'll add more posts along the way until DAY 14, when I arrived, after 750 jumps and 18,000 ly. Enjoy!

BUG -report: It is looking just like any other neutron stars, please get magnetars some fancy-looking design :D

Also, if someone figures out that there are more of them in Elite, please share!

THE MAGNETAR

I hate to break this to you, but Jackson's Lighthouse is far closer and within the bubble of populated space. ;)

They do look the same as other neutron stars, unfortunately, but magnetars are just neutron stars with powerful magnetic fields.

Edit - It is in that list of magnetars, but shown as associated with the galactic core and ~27.7kly away. Another divergence between the game and reality. :)

Wouldn't a magnetar, in the human spectrum of light sensitivity, look just like a neutron star? I thought the flashing coming from these objects was in the x-ray and higher ranges, beyond naked human observation.

Yeah.

And you wouldn't see that powerful magnetic field either. But if you went too close, it would do nasty things to your ship and your body!

True, of course, but implying human eye visibility to ranges we travel to stellar objects in Elite is just not making any sense - you would be blind in a second. I think of it like this: The canopy's glass is reducing the amount of light coming into the cockpit. Still you are valid about observing in human spectra, but it would be great to just add some minor "effects" (not hollywood ones) for a certain type of phenomena, like magnetars, pulsars, etc. I know I'm in dreamland now, but imagine something like this:

or

scientifically objectionable images, I know, but there are very few authentic one in a quick google search.

As I mentioned, I already been there, and yes, it is exactly looking like just another neutron star as it should :)

Thank you all for the positive replies!
