Community Event / Creation Journey to the Pleiades Nebula

22:30 local time
Kitted out my shiny new Asp with a top of the line FSD and prepared for a long trip to Pleiades, the furthest I’ve travelled since I made my maiden voyage in a starting Sidewinder to Sol and later Founder’s world. I set a course through a trade route at Mono and Neri, then plotted a route through Aries Dark sector, stopping only to scan systems with metal rich planets within 2000 LS. I had to stay focused on my mission though if I was going to finish what I started in one session. I figured a size 3 fuel scoop is worth the sacrifice of a larger cargo bay because where I’m going there won’t be many high tech systems. I was filled with anticipation of what sights would await my arrival.

Arriving in Maia - Pleiades Nebula, the system is a vast expanse and there are many gas giants. Super cruise from Maia A was over 300,000 LS taking about 15 minutes at max velocity, about 72C. I chatted to another Asp pilot, CMDR Owlgrim who by chance happened to be there on my arrival at the Black hole. By text comms he told me you have to get in close to it to see the lens effect. At just over 1.2 LS away what I saw was a huge anti-climax as it was just a faint ripple effect visible in SC. On my return back to sell the data to UC at the edge of populated space I discovered that the 4 planets and the black hole I scanned in Maia were worth around a trivial 20-30K. I scanned a few systems on the way but all told the profit was barely above 80K CR. My explorer rank didn’t budge at all from Surveyor. I expect that to change if I ever decide to head to Witch Head nebula.
