Ended up getting a Razer Tartarus keypad to try out in place of throttle or second stick...set throttle in increments, thrusters, jump on there...as to distract me as little possible from direction, yaw, and weapons on the stick...
great post thanks. this has now got me thinking about ditiching my X55 throttle and using a twin stick with my X55 stick, my MS side winder stick alone with my fanatec clubsport racing peddles..... it may be fun to give it a go.
as for your X55 throttle issues, i found mine very stiff at 1st however over time it has loosened up, so much so now that it is an incredibly responsive throttle - estimated 4 - 500 hrs use so far and it is WAY looser on minimum friction than it was (there is a tension adjuster bar on it)
For prospective purchasers of the X55, the stiffness of the throttle is massively influenced by ambient temperature - as the temperature increases the friction lessens.
This is further influenced by the natural warming of the grease that imparts the friction as you move the throttle back and forth a few times.
If you live in a cooler climate and / or play in a cold room, this definitely makes a difference to the throttle feel.
Unfortunately the Tartarus keypad only has an 8-way thumb dpad... It would be perfect if Razer made it with the analog thumb stick for motion... Read that some get the Logitech G13 and mod the pointy analog thumbstick with a playstation controller for a better feel... I had to go with the Tartarus Chroma because key quality, action, illumination, and ergonomics are way better...plus the number of keys, size, and layout much better as well...less confusing in the heat of things... I use the Tartarus left for all motion in increments, thrusters, warp, and an array of special commands and macros... Have the Warthog stick right with all direction and weapons... This setup allows me not to be distracted by moving a throttle, second stick, or peddles...and not so confined to sitting in one position all the time... It's a little less on the emersion factor, but think it's very efficient for combat...and out ganking the gankers... lol...
