Joystick has constant pull to left

hi, this is a re-occurring issue with my Logitech extreme 3D Pro. when the game loads it starts panning left like a banshee, so is unusable. I have searched, googled, waited for an hour for Logitech Chat Support (never answered). in the past when this happened I was able to blunder into a fix (or spontaneous regeneration). Can't find how to get steam to reinstall the profile for the ED game, either. any advice appreciated! thanks...

I recently had a phantom disable of auto rotation correction...

I'm not clear from OP what the symptom is really describing.

Pitch, yaw, roll... ?

Have you tried simply increasing the size of the Y-axis dead zone of your joystick?

I use this joy stick and had this issue. The joy stick had just worn out and I replaced it with a new one.

You can probably find a youtube video and take it apart and maybe you can fix it. To me it is a lot easier to just buy a new one.

thanks to all for the suggestions, much appreciated... I docked the ship, ate lunch, and when I went back out it had cured itself.... I did not change any settings, so who knows what's going on with it...

pitch = up down like saying yes with a nod
roll = rotate like clock hands clockwise anti clockwise
yaw means twirl like a ballerina
and elevation go up down like a elevator
so I am guessing yaw

Just for future peace of mind you should also use it (the stick) on others games, to see if you get the same kind of issue at any point. If so then as Strontium Dog mentions it is likely developing a hardware fault, if not it probably is a weird software gremlin associated with ED and it's overly complex keybindings.

thanks for the reply; I was just working on it when you posted. I have no other games to check it with, maybe I can find a freebie online to do that. I will look at the Windows calibration. yesterday, just unplugging/replugging the j/s USB fixed it. today, replugging causes about 3 little jerk backs to center, then constant yaw left. about at the point of ordering another j/s for $30... Logitech support was non-existent; waited forever in their chat window.

Had this happen to me, stick pulling hard left. Having a technical brother ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”งwho offered to look at it....much muttering about 'pots' and 'hall effect tech' he looked ๐Ÿ‘€ at my stick...๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ—œ๏ธ๐Ÿช›๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ”จ๐Ÿ› ๏ธโš’๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฉโš™๏ธ :whistle:๐Ÿš‘ ๐Ÿฅ(n)and it is now completely โ˜ ๏ธโšฐ๏ธ๐Ÿชฆ๐Ÿ‘ป...... new ๐Ÿšš๐Ÿ•น๏ธ now in-situ! o7

Yeah i'd definitely want confirmation it is the physical stick that is wearing down and not just ED, before taking it apart or buying new. Not sure on free games you could test it on, but others might have suggestions?

Edit: Actually (duh!) you can download and try Oolite for free (an open source version of the original Elite game) here:

That should give you confirmation on what is the issue, and maybe introduce you to a cool awesome new Elite inspired game (y)

Two possible reasons I'd know about:
  • Your stick may be going bad. You can check that directly in windows. Type "joy.cpl" into the search bar to open the control panel, select the controller you want to test and then proceed to Properties -> Test. That lets you check all axes and buttons of USB connected gaming devices
  • You bound the analog axis/axes of the stick as well as some other input - like keyboard or mouse - to the same control. We already had the case where someone bound both the stick and the mouse to yaw, then wondered why it was impossible to center the stick after he knocked the mouse... That would also fir the "self repair" observation - you (or your cat) just knocked the mouse back into the stick's dead zone.

the hammer looks like the operative tool. this was my last joystick. I used one to fly with CMDR Jameson on a Commodore 64...

OP...

I began this game years ago using a Logitech 3D Pro. It worked great on most of my flight sims but developed the same problem you describe above.

I could not tune the left pull out no matter what I did.

Turns out that it was the combination of the game, my computer (at the time) and the JS. I switched to a Play Station game control and no more problems.

I have since upgraded computers and checked out my 3D Pro with no problems in this game, but I've gotten used to the game control and for the prowess I myself have developed in an in-game dogfight...I'll keep using it.

Keeping in mind that my stick is at least 5 years old, I figure Logitech hasn't altered its "build" components in quite some time:rolleyes:.

Good luck.

thanks for all the suggestions. I have been able to "fix it" with the controller calibration settings in Win 10. After I did that, it reoccurred, and the calibration fixed it again, so hopefully that is a thing. When that fails to work, i will buy a new one...
