Some of you watching the Kickstarter may have seen me bemoaning I couldn't get the Joystick to work in GLFrontier, or the DosBox versions &c...
Well now I have, and I am going to share this with all of you.
If anyone here wants to play ANY game with a joystick - even if it only accepts keyboard or mouse input, here is how.
It is called JoyToKey - AND IT WORKS!!!
http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey English Version.htm
I have a Logitech Freedom 2.4 Cordless joystick,
It has 4 axis - Pitch, Roll, Yaw and Throttle (if you can call that last one an axis
)
It also has 10 buttons and an 8-way hat.
I could not get Logitech's Wingman software to work on my Vista machine, but that JoyToKey stuff does the trick.
It supports multiple profiles.
I can now map my most used controls to my stick.
so Throttle up and Throttle down (funnily enough are NOT being mapped to the throttle), but to 2 buttons on the base so I can Engines off dogfight
I'll set the hat to view, a couple of other buttons to star dreamer, then there are my lasers and missiles, &c...
Life is now good again
(not that the great news of the successful KS doesn't help too - I just have to try and explain it all to my wife now
)
Her "Is it going to save the world?"
Me "Err, no"
Her "Then what is the point of it?"
Me " ????? "
unfortunately I don't think that there is anything I can say to her that she will accept
Any way, I digress.
Joystick Support for all versions of Elite old and new - just needs configuring first
Enjoy
