Hello , I'm a bit of a noob playing with joystick (played with one like 15 years ago in my cousins house) but have tons of hours playing in the xbox, Is joystick really a must have? And throttle?

A throttle is a must.

As for a joystick, its a matter of taste really. I wouldn't be without my Speedlink.

Sadly i'm in the cheapskate camp and drool over people's warthogs/saiteks etc.

Continuous analogue throttle on my XB1 (pc) pad triggers works as well in ED as in any racing game of recent years.

Some people play with a controller, including several of the devs I believe, so it's quite usable. An analogue stick bound to forward/reverse thrust would give you a similar level of control to a throttle -- more responsive in some ways, though needing more attention too (I used the mini stick on my HOTAS like this at one point and would still do so, except it has more value as up/down/lateral thrust.

My Blackwidow Speedlink cost me £20.
