Newcomer / Intro joystick

hi I have just purchased a Thrustmaster T16000M I am having problems downloading the bindings for Elite Dangerous to the command centre as stated in the instructions any help would be appreciated
cheers Eric

Here is a set of bindings I used for that stick. I didn't use any driver or "command centre" program, just calibrated the joystick in windows game controllers settings. I then just assigned each item you see in the options controls menu in Elite.

It surprises me that many of the non-Hotas Joystick schematics I've seen don't include forward and reverse thrust. Speed control in normal and supercruise is pretty vital in most situations! In my set up it's the slider control , sensor range for me is not so important so it's bound to keypad + and -. I notice on Amazon there is a new version arriving in a few days. I've always trusted Thrustmaster so it would be a good choice when my current stick gives up.

I should have edited the pic I posted as the joystick was paired with a CH Pro Throttle so I used the slider on the stick for sensor range, just to use it really - the pic was just to give the OP a starting point.

P.S. A new version of what joystick on Amazon?

T16000M FCS HOTAS come with new version of flight Stick. Same Sensor a Warthog flight Stick. I bought a week ago. Very good Stick and Throttle.

Just ordered the same, but I'm curious: how do you guys set up?

I'm assuming it's something like this...

[KEYBOARD] [M]
[T]...space...[JS]

Actually:

.................[MFD]..............[MFD]
..............[T][KEYBOARD][JS].......... [M]

[Coffee]
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

......................[Pedals]

BB strips the blank spaces so ignore the dots, I have not spilled Maltesers on the desk. ;)

Pedals, too? Wow!

And, excuse the ignorance - MFDs?

Ah, got it. Multi Function Display. They look kind of cool...

I think MFD is his displays and VVVVVVVVVVVVVV is his desk and M is his mouse, t throttle and js joystick

not sure what Coffee is though.

Caliber

Except for the pedals my setup is real close to his. I use dual monitors and could not imagine using a single monitor anymore.

Back to your regular scheduled program.....

The setup is based on my Flight Sim gear, the MFDs are recent (Thrustmaster Cougar Multi Function Displays) and I have not fully decided how to use them in E D - they make my flight sim "flying" so much more intuitive without going to the lengths of instrument panels like some people do. Unfortunately I think E D is going to be a bit more limited since (I believe) you can only have primary and secondary devices in the bindings so items that I want to retain keyboard binds for that are also on my HOTAS will be a problem - maybe have to use TARGET for those.

Throttle, joystick and pedals are CH products Pro series (I also have a Yoke which I swap-in for light aircraft flight-simming) - I don't like using the pedals in E D so I have yaw buttons and a Yaw-to-Roll (hold) on the pinky button of the joystick (it is a Fighterstick so no twist axis). (When you are used to using pedals in atmospheric flight, their use to provide turning {yaw} motion in space feels weird.)

I too have a secondary monitor on the desk, but it is connected to a second PC (on my network) and gets used a lot in flight sim - I don't use multi-monitors for in-game E D but it allows browsing and third-party site access without alt-tabbing.

The most important part of the setup of course is the coffee.

I thought I might clarify something.

When I first got E D I thought it best to not use any flight sim controls (using a yoke would have felt daft) and I saw on the forums that people rated the Thrustmaster HOTAS-X so I got one of them - that felt so intuitive and the full-range of the throttle (forward and reverse) just felt "right". That lasted nearly two years, in fact it still works but I finally decided that I wanted more joystick buttons so I spent ages trying out model after model and finally decided that the CH Fighterstick was the best for me.

The point I am trying to make is that the £30 HOTAS-X gave me just as much use and almost as much functionality as my many-hundreds of pounds-worth of flight-sim controls. So just having the HOTAS-X and placing it [T][KB][JS] [M] is perfectly adequate.

P.S. Of course the [coffee] is not optional. ;)
