Newcomer / Intro Joysticks

The only major thing missing that it needs is a second ' POV HAT' on the left throttle stick so you can assign it to the thrusters. I have to use the keyboard for landing etc as there arent enough buttons to do everything on the sticks.

Yep been there, however my solution was when i noticed that Landing Mode under control options allowed me to rebind controls to be used only when my landing gear was down, turning my POV HAT into thruster controls for lining up on the landing pad.

Still working on finding the right button combo for in flight thrusters though....

I just got one of these:
Mad Catz® F.L.Y. 5 Stick for PC

It has 12 buttons, a throttle, and lots of twiddly-bits to adjust the fit.
But the Mad Catz V1 is £20 cheaper, and will probably do just as well for Elite.

I'm loving the Fly 5.
I looked at the v1 in the shop and the one I looked at didn't have as many buttons (I use all of them on the 5) but more importantly to me, it didn't have the throttle. Hence I bought the Fly 5 :)

I have an X52 Pro, but I prefer using my Logitech Gamepad for Elite. The ships are fairly "slow", so precision is not so important.
Funny how you got the X-Box Controller working on the PC, it's afaik not DirectInput compatible. Cool.

So just for this game, I would probably not upgrade. But if you want to, the x52 is a bit fragile, it's easy to break off something. Other than that, it works fine.

Of its a third party wired controller, just plug it in and it works. Although some games are really picky and won't accept 3rd party controllers.
