Jump distance

Does anyone else think that the jump distances are too short for most of the ships. I sold my type 9 in Eranin and purchased an eagle. After hours of trading up to 8mill I thought I would get involved in some trouble. So I look on the bulletins but all the kill missions are outside my jump range.
Looking at the star map I can only jump between Eranin, Ovid, and one other system (I forget the name). Am I doomed to spend the rest of my life hopping between these three systems with nothing to do if I keep this ship.
How can I be sure that I will actually be able to do anything with a particular ship, within a particular system before I buy it.
Here's an idea, a big ship like a type9 with long jump ranges that you can park an eagle inside it:)

I am not sure it's in any proposal, and it's certainly not in-game yet, but it would be great if players could pay for transportation of ships that takes longer than normal for these purposes.

POST EDIT: That doesn't help you in any way whatsoever, apologies in advance!

Yes I agree that the Jump Ranges do seem to small, certainly the Eagle and the Viper need a better range, once equipped you are pretty much stuck. I'm hoping that this is because of a couple of reasons:

Upgradable jump drives are not in the game yet. hopefully Improve the jump range of your ship at the cost of greater fuel usage.

The limited area we can travel in the universe at the moment. I hope the drive ranges will be tuned so that most destinations can be reached, but that you may have to take the long way round.

Cheers

FD have stated that the Eagle will be getting a greater jump range, although it sounds like the Viper won't as it's classed as a short-range interceptor (boo :().

That is an excellent idea! It would open up the whole galaxy if you had the credits to pay for the trip. Pay more if you want to transport your ship as well. Pay less if you're travelling on foot.
However the far flung reaches of the galaxy should still remain hard to get to so a further price to pay could be time. My friend plays GT on his play station and the 24hr Le Mans takes 24 hrs.

I believe fuel scoops are coming in the near future, then you will be able to scoop fuel from stars and gas giants I believe so that may alleviate some transport problems
.

Maybe when the game's in its final stage (apart from other ships being available) those ship's we all ready have will be customisable, i.e. different engines with different jump capabilities. I guess what we have at the moment is only a sample of what's to come, just to give us something to play with :)

You could mitigate 'far flung regions' by stating that it's a core worlds/high-economy service - thus leaving out of the scope of those exploring (who should have advanced engines for their ship anyway).

I'd expect it to cost at least a couple of hundred credits for the smallest ship - should be cheap enough to help stranded players, but expensive enough for players not to take advantage of it. Maybe make it x3 hyperspace time, for example.

Yeah, the jump distances are a joke at the moment and need at least a doubeling in my opinion. Even a Cobra gets hardly over 7ly with full cargo and that is before you even put heavier weapons on it.

Specially since you CAN jump from system to system almost without any problems. So if I can jump from System A to B and then from B to C only a few seconds after I entered B, why can't I jump to C straight away?

The least the game really needs is a form of route planing. What does it help to potentially have 400 billion star systems, when you can hardly get out of the first 50?
