"Jump range" and "max fuel per jump"

If I increase my jump range (by having a lighter ship) will it be able to jump to further systems or will my unchanged max fuel per jump hold me back?

In other words:
I have a Sidewinder. It started with about 7.56LY jump range and 0.6 max fuel per jump. I sometimes couldn't do some jumps (the lines on the galaxy map) that were futher than that distance and the error was something about "exceeding 0.6 max fuel per jump". Now I upgraded some parts of my ship and I have a 8.08LY but still 0.6 max fuel per jump. Does it mean I still can't do longer jumps because of my max fuel per jump?

What use is an increased jump range if the max fuel per jump limits the range anyway?

Further your jump range, less fuel used to jump shorter distances. So yes you will be able to jump further.

Which is not to say you'll have enough fuel to be able to jump your max capacity.

Your reduced mass will mean you can jump further using the same amount of fuel, so your range will go up, although you'll still only use up to 0.6 per jump.

The way ED calculates if you can make a particular jump is to figure out how much fuel you would use to do it, based on your ships mass and the optimal mass for your FSD. If that number is more than you got in your tank (insuff. fuel) or more than your FSD can swallow in a single gulp (excess mass), you can't do it.
